My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected.
Hi! Tor should work well for you. There is some great information on installing it in Ubuntu here https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Tor.
So wrong! Imagine a leading Linux distro in 50 years... Your ideas are outdated, sorry. It's not greed, it is the way Linux and the awesome Ubuntu need to go. The potential for companies to realise...
You must have some kind of "divine" patience! None of this makes sense. Why would you anonymize the outbound connections of an apache server? Depending on the content this also puts the people...
I think it's great too. I expect a lot of distros will moan about the open source free philosophy but in the real world this will be a milestone for Ubuntu.
When companies realise there is a...
+1
Have you tried installing openoffice.org-gtk? Open Office tends to play nicer with your gtk theme afterwards. Copy and paste this into your terminal:
sudo apt-get install openoffice.org-gtk
Welcome to the forum!
I can't give an expert technical response, however from experience I can say that if you open a wmv file in totem it should prompt you to install some plugins.
I usually get...
OK thanks for trying it. I wonder as a "hack" could you try copying the image from the DVD to an ISO file using Brasero and then burn this to another DVD and run it in Ubuntu. I appreciate this is...
I'm not sure the OS that burned the DVD should count so much. Might be more to do with enabling the viewing of DVDs in Ubuntu. Have a look here https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats...
Ah the infinite loop :D
I agree with the OP that incomplete titles are frustrating but IMO not as much as people who can just about be bothered to string together 4 words correctly... "Ubunut...
Ubuntu has a nice reference guide which could be worth bookmarking for the future: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2. Good luck with it!
I think I get the idea that bcbc has in that the boot.ini does have a setting for timeout value which could be why you are switching straight into XP. To learn about accessing boot.ini you can have a...
Thanks I shall swap back to it right now as I do miss it. Now that I think of it, it is pretty cool having the same one as someone who actually know what they are talking about :D
That's...
OK just to clarify you're at "Step 8" on mini-tutorial thing I wrote earlier right? You've rebooted and there is no option to choose Ubuntu on the menu and allow the Wubi installation to complete...
It's gonna be an incredible and fun part of your life but don't get too distracted. I wish you well in everything you do. For notes I'm going to suggest an alternative, get a blog at wordpress.com,...
Lol :D Swiss Unix-Admin. Mmm! He was here first and his posts are pretty good. Probably gets owned Monday to Friday so I won't add to the trauma and just default back to my old one. Hopefully no-one...
Oh no! Duplicate avatar now I'm going to have to make mine green or something =(
Lol :D I don't think your stupid. I would suggest to anyone building a custom PC for the experience of building a PC to start with something like researching their CPU, then take your a** over to a...
Not sure I agree with that. Patch Tuesday and all. Windows must be aware of the never ending stack based buffer overflows when coding a new OS but seemingly never properly test it prior to release....
Shouldn't be that hard IMO! Also you'll learn a lot from the experience. If you decide to use a Silverstone case or components I can vouch they give excellent support. Tell them everything what you...
Suspicious :D I think there are numerous methods which is why Google might be a better and less obvious option http://lmgtfy.com/?q=get+ip+address+from+pidgin
No problem! When I first started using Linux I did not have experience of using ISOs either so your far from alone in this situation.
I'll try and think up a mini-tutorial for your Wubi install...
You should always have a firewall if not hardware then there is really no excuse for not enabling ufw in Ubuntu, just by enabling it the default policy automatically adds iptables rules for you.
...
That does sound like a great idea I think! My solution would be a sticky at the top of each forum section called <something>...
You could then under "Thread Tools" have an option to link your thread...
