The last update (1.5.8-0ubuntu3~pulse18 ) killed my framerate in StarCraft 2.

A newer Catalyst(fglrx) driver will probably fix the graphics corruption. I don't know which version to recommend for Ubuntu 10.04, hopefully the lastest will work.

I use SystemRescueCd.

And things sometimes break when I fix stuff that isn't broken...
I had no problems with the installation part. Already configured for Starcraft 2.

It could be caused by a Gamepad or some other input device.
I had a keyboard with a slidebar that did this. The only solution I came up with was to disconnect it.:(
Video RAM amount is not detected correctly.
Try forcing it.

I have the same issue with my Radeon HD 5750. Your card probably has 512 or 1024 MB.
This finally solved my sound problems.
Except my output device was different: front:0

Check your Keyboard Preferences --> Layout Options and disable one of the options. I can't remember which one it was, something with the left Alt-key....
I searched for it and found out the correct name is libgtkglext1.
sudo apt-get install libgtkglext1
apt-cache search name
For Quake 3 and Enemy Territory, I recommend the stable version.
