Re: Canonical: where's the 14.04 hype?

No idea who made it or why it is only on a few mirrors, and i haven't so far found any documentation about it.
What i do know is that some UK magazines* have put the 'DVD' (ie this sized version) on...

Re: Canonical: where's the 14.04 hype?

    I found it!

    http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/cdimage.ubuntu.com/cdimage/releases/12.04.4/release/

It's toward the bottom of the list - a 1.6gig iso

Re: Canonical: where's the 14.04 hype?

    Yep. Very odd.

I can't find it there or on the main Ubuntu pages, but i definitely had one once - may have been a later point release than those i've checked - but it was certainly an oversized...

Re: Canonical: where's the 14.04 hype?

Yes i'm aware of that, but there used to be another larger iso available that included it and a lot of other apps (12.04 had one - i downloaded it from the Ubu website), I think it also had all the...

Re: Canonical: where's the 14.04 hype?

Speaking of not being able to find stuff: ....is there a BIG '(what was) DVD' iso available anywhere? Like they have with 12.04 - with Gimp and all the extra stuff?

    Cheers!

Was there no countdown page for this release?
...now i think about it, when was one last used.

I may be getting a little senile :)
  11. Re: Why does the GNU foundation promote uncommon distros?

I've no idea why they are still promoting BLAG at all. It is a dead distro that was based Fedora.
I believe the BLAG folks decided that it was easier for folk to BLAGify normal Fedora releases with...

    Re: Why 14.04lts?

Unity 7 is faster and more configurable OOTB than Unity 5 is :)
Plus of course, as others have noted, you get later versions of kernel and programs.

  16. [SOLVED] Re: Exactly how vulnerable are unsupported versions of Ubuntu?

And that's all i was trying to establish. Thank you :)
  17. [SOLVED] Re: Exactly how vulnerable are unsupported versions of Ubuntu?

    Not at all.

All my machines are running up-to-date Debian derivatives.

Rather than trying to encourage others to use unsupported OS's I was hoping to help assure them that their old XP machines...

    Works fine here.
  19. [SOLVED] Re: Exactly how vulnerable are unsupported versions of Ubuntu?

    Right. Thanks to all.

From all the above, i gather that - as long as a user surfs safely and conscientiously - an unsupported old version (eg 10.04) is perfectly fine to use on older machines that...

13.04 was generally very well received by most users. Are you sure it isn't a hardware issue?

  23. [SOLVED] Re: Exactly how vulnerable are unsupported versions of Ubuntu?

In essence that was what i was asking about.

With the impending EOL of Win XP there will be a lot of hardware that won't be capable of running newer releases (due to driver support in newer...
