[ubuntu] Re: Can't mount network location

Shouldn't have to install firestarter. I only asked because once it's installed you have to create a policy for samba in Firestarter.

Here's a quick test to try. Do you know the IP of one of your...

[ubuntu] Re: Can't mount network location

Try viewing your network on the computer you made the corrections on. If it now shows the network, then it should also fix the other systems too.

Also, reboot the computer first! I almost forgot...

[ubuntu] Re: Can't mount network location

This is what I had to do to fix this issue with Jaunty.

    1- Install winbind

    sudo apt-get install winbind

    2- Edit /etc/nsswitch.conf

    sudo nano /etc/nsswitch.conf

[ubuntu] Re: Computer will not boot

In see in the image of the OP "sda", so I'd assume the problem is likely coming from the master disk. You could try only plugging in the master, trying to boot to see if it fails again. If so, it...

    [ubuntu] Re: new chat client

You could run multiple accounts on Pidgin, but it's a pain. What you'd have to do each time is disable your brothers accounts for each account, then enable each of your own. Would be annoying. Best...

No problem. I'm sure you have reasons. Just be sure when your installing the other OS to adjust your partition sizes correctly. If I remember right it will try to limit the current OS big time, while...

I don't know if you know, but you can install both desktops and choose which you want to run at the login screen. Guess it depends on what you want, but simply adding a second window manager, like...
  9. [ubuntu] Re: 4 monitors now recognized, help me set up Nvidia X Server Settings

4 monitors? No problem. Just get three mirrors angle them correctly, add a little imagination, and no need to make any configuration changes! I'm the Ubuntu expert! hahahahaa

    No really, 4 panels...
  10. [ubuntu] Re: Why Doesn't General Options In My CCSM Have An Opacity Tab?

I hope I did the attachment correctly.

Under Compiz Settings Manager there is a plugin specifically for opacity.

    [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu harrassment

Wow, I completely over looked that option when I went looking earlier. I didn't even know it had that option. Interesting... Yeah that sounds like it could do what the OP is describing.

[ubuntu] Re: Computer will not boot

Sounds like a good thought to me! I had a computer once that would have some weird issue, and removing the CMOS battery would make it work again, well, for a while any ways.
  16. [ubuntu] Re: Rhythmbox no sound when screen saver kicks in

Nope. I've never had that sort of issue. Wonder what the screen-saver has to do with the sound any ways...

[ubuntu] Re: Computer will not boot

I'd try disconnecting your hard disks then booting from the LiveCD. If it then boots you've narrowed down the issues to something with the hard disks.

The whole thunderstorm thing worries me....

  21. [kubuntu] Re: Can't delete files, claims trash is full.

I really don't know what would be causing that issue. Just as a guess, have you checked to make sure the root trash folder isn't full? /root/.local/share... If so, you can just shift+del the Trash...

[ubuntu] Re: Am I Out of Luck With Desktop Effects?

The best I can see so far you can't get 3D acceleration with the SiS M650 card on most Linux OS's. I did see a driver download from SiS main site for a Fedora system I believe. If you google SiS M650...
