or you could setup an alias to do same thing with single command if you don't all ways want the folders mounted....

hmmm ... sorry was just an idea.
only other way i can think of is to use live cd and chroot into your system to modify that file.
try as superuser? just a first thought!
$ sudo su
yes it does seam to working fine from the live usb after installing remastersys on it. however how you will need a second usb to install the new iso file to....

hmmmm i have to say that i dont really know, i see no reason why you cant. but i do not know for sure. just make sure you create a backup of your usb first to be safe.

passwd username
and then enter the old password and the new one two times.
