Once you solved the uefi boot problem after installation everything goes flawless.
Link about uefi boot:...
Have you found the laptop?
For the Venue 8: I updated to 14.10 and 3.18rc4 Still no WiFi or BT, and the strange problem of getting stuck in loading ramdisk if I didn't choose manually the uefi boot option.
Hi, It has been reported to work out of the box with Ubuntu 14.10 here:

Hi, I'm looking for the same thing, have you found some thing about it?
it was supposedly announced moths ago:...
I'm having problems to boot {venue 8} with kernel versions 3.15.1 onwards. It hangs just after Loading initial ramdisk... I tried modifying kernel options {video or nomodeset} and nothing... It only...
Instead of nomodeset. With video=VGA-1:800x1280@75e the video works a lot better.

Hi. I'm using a Venue 8... With the 3.15rc3 kernel: no wifi, no blue-tooth, no webcam. And using nomodeset kernel option.
I installed Ubuntu 14.04 following these instructions:...
Ubuntu 12.04.2 has an older kernel version, may be you could consider to use a newer kernel version.

Hi, 11.04 its EOLed... May be you want to take a look to this: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EOLUpgrades
I would take the fresh install option.
Regards.
Hi, have you tried adding this option? --store-quirks-as-lkw
Regards.
Have you seen this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2131165
When you booted from usb, could you see your drive and check if the partitions were alright, I mean that you could read your OS files.
You can't boot from your recovery partition?
I have seen it in Raspbian (Raspberry Pi).
Regards
Thank you... Somebody has tried it on ubuntu yet? or tried MATE on Ubuntu?
Fuduntu... I don't like fedora based distributions that much.
Regards.

Hi Peter, did you solve your problem?... reverse ssh is not an option for my case.
Best Regards.
In a terminal execute
xrandr and see if you get this error: failed to get size of gamma for output default
I got the same problem if I use xorg.conf.failsafe settings.
Try using Memotoo+SyncEvolution:

Yes, I'm using Ubuntu every day in my laptop, but some times I need to use Windows. My laptop came with Vista, I downgraded it from vista to XP, for obvious reasons. Installing Ubuntu was more easier...
It really helps... thank you! I'm using your modified theme on Ubuntu 9.04.
