    [ubuntu] media center keyboard

Can anyone recommend a good keyboard for a Ubuntu based media center?

The keyboard should include a trackball or touchpad and ideally also have a scroll button. Preferably wired or IR.

    Thanks,...

Setting LoginCookieValidity did not do the trick in my case.

I don't think you have to set blowfish_secret, it should be set when phpMyAdmin is installed. Have a look at:...

[ubuntu] original 8.04 amd64 server download

I am looking for the original 8.04 Hardy iso images, not 8.04.1, does anyone know if they are online somewhere?

[ubuntu] Re: update-initramfs and /dev structure

Figured why was LILO installed, because the root partition, /, is on LVM, and GRUB cannot read from LVM.

Ideally I should have put /boot on a separate partition, not on LVM, and then GRUB would...

[ubuntu] Re: update-initramfs and /dev structure

Until the last kernel update these warning were harmless. With the last one the server did not reboot anymore.

The system was eventually restarted by selecting LinuxOLD.

    Forgot to mention in...

    [ubuntu] update-initramfs and /dev structure

For quite a while, after a kernel update, I keep getting these warnings every time there is a kernel update:

    Warning: LBA32...
  9. Re: "VirtualBox kernel driver not installed" error after Hardy upgrade

I was getting this "No suitable module for running kernel found." error with 18, but not with 17. Make sure all the required packages are installed, as per the Community Ubuntu Documentation.
  10. Re: "VirtualBox kernel driver not installed" error after Hardy upgrade

OK, then boot into 17 and then run this command:

    sudo dpkg-reconfigure virtualbox-ose

If this will not work, then I have no clue, sorry. Try downloading the closed source version then.
  11. Re: "VirtualBox kernel driver not installed" error after Hardy upgrade

    You have two options:

Boot a previous kernel - reboot and right after the BIOS screen you will see a message about hitting 'Esc' in order to get into the Grub menu; do that and select the...
  12. Re: "VirtualBox kernel driver not installed" error after Hardy upgrade

Good point. What can be done?

Is there a Launchpad issue opened for this? If there was, we could direct all users with problems there to add their comments.
  13. Re: "VirtualBox kernel driver not installed" error after Hardy upgrade

The other thing to keep in mind is that by installing random .debs you may run into problems when you upgrade your system. Always try first to install from the official repositories.

    If the...
  14. Re: "VirtualBox kernel driver not installed" error after Hardy upgrade

Got the same error, you probably are using the OSE version, in which case the command is:

Anyhow, this did not solve the problem, getting "No suitable module for running kernel found."
  15. Poll: Re: Share with the community your gutsy install/upgrade experience

Downloaded iso images using bittorrent yesterday, that went very fast.

    Re: HOWTO: Lirc in Edgy

So, using the mceusb2 driver helped, but it was not all. I also needed a different lircd.conf file and found the right one on the Sysop.ca blog.

The irw test works now :-D

    Re: HOWTO: Lirc in Edgy

Ideally you want MythTV to control your set-top box. It can be done with an IR blaster (I thought that this is what you meen with "transmitter") or wither serial or firewire cable.

    Re: HOWTO: Lirc in Edgy

Hm, this could be my problem then. I have an external USB receiver (and it also has an IR blaster). Is this the mceusb2 then?

If yes, how can I safely remove the i2c driver I already installed?

I am having the exact same problems as you.

There is one thing I noticed in your configuration though, you seem to be using the mceusb2 driver, but for your remote, afaik, you should use i2c.
