    Re: Graphical CD/DVD Burning

You could try K3b. It's arguably one of the best disc burning programs for Linux, plus, it doesn't require any GNOME dependencies.
It does need KDE dependencies, though.
    Regardless of that fact, it...
  2. [SOLVED] Re: X server fails to start after Nvidia driver update

Yes, Mint has a recovery mode, and I already tried booting from it, but the X server still crashed.
There is some good news, though. I purged the Nvidia driver that I updated to, and everything...
  3. [SOLVED] X server fails to start after Nvidia driver update

After updating to the latest kernel (3.2.0-53) last night, I noticed that the Gnome Display Manager wasn't working. I then tried updating my Nvidia driver to version 319, thinking that would fix the...

    Re: Minecraft 1.6 Launcher Help

Right-click the launcher and click "Properties"; then click the "Permissions" tab and at the bottom you should find an option to make the file executable.

    Re: Minecraft 1.6 Launcher Help

You can just download the Linux version of the launcher from Mojang's website. To run it all you should have to do is right-click the launcher and open it with whatever Java version that you have.
  8. Re: considering upgrading from 10.04LTS to 12.04LTS

MATE is an awesome desktop. Vastly superior to Unity, in my opinion. It has much more customizability, and it has all of GNOME's applets.

    Re: Java/Minecraft issues

I haven't had any problems with Oracle Java 7, and both OpenJDK 5 and 6 work okay as well.

    Re: Java/Minecraft issues

Try completely uninstalling OpenJDK 6 and the java plugin that you installed and instead, install Oracle Java. This link should help you.
  13. Re: Linux Mint won't recognize sound card's inputs

I fixed it. All I had to do was, in the hardware tab of the sound preferences, switch my sound card profile from "Analog Stereo Output" to "Analog Stereo Duplex." I don't know why I didn't notice...

Indeed you can. Check this link:

Also, if you're installing Ubuntu on a Windows 8 laptop, use a 64-bit version of Ubuntu if...
  15. Re: Linux Mint won't recognize sound card's inputs

Qjackctl refuses to work now, so I would be back to square one, except that the inputs work fine on another account, so mine must be set up differently...hopefully I'll figure out what the difference...
  16. Re: Linux Mint won't recognize sound card's inputs

Alright, qjackctl got the inputs working (kind of), but I'm having trouble recording from them. Audacity skips random frames while its recording, which isn't exactly ideal.
    As for the inputs...I...

Thanks, man. I'll try what was suggested in that thread.
  18. Linux Mint won't recognize sound card's inputs

I have an old sound card, exactly like this one here, and I ever since I switched to Linux I've never been able to get the inputs to work.
I was able to see them with Ubuntu 12.04, but wasn't able...

    [ubuntu] Re: frostwire for 12.04

I would recommend that you don't use Frostwire. That program, like Limewire, is very susceptible to viruses. While it is very difficult to infect Ubuntu directly, a virus can always hijack Frostwire...

And just yesterday I was thinking, "It's shame that this game isn't available on Linux, otherwise I'd get it."

I think that the OP's problem has something to do with OpenGL, as indicated by this:

    Re: Loading Mods in Minecraft

    Try MultiMC.

    http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1000645-multimc-43-windows-linux-mac/

It makes installing mods much easier. Plus, you can have multiple instances of Minecraft, too.
  25. Re: Linus Torvalds: I will not change Linux to “****-****** Microsoft”

    I have to disagree.
I had an almost 14 year old motherboard (with BIOS) and 20 GB hdd with Ubuntu 10.04 on it, and it booted just fine.
Now, I have a less than 2 month old motherboard (with UEFI)...
