    I would definately recommend vim or gvim.
    For diffing, vimdiff is a great feature.

    Usually, one of 2 things works for me.

    First, enable restricted drivers.
    System->Administration->Restricted Drivers (I think, unfortunately I'm on the girlfriends...

    NetworkManager and wicd don't get along to the best of my knowledge, maybe the upgrade installed some network manager stuff

    Strange one, I cannot access that site here (Dublin) either.
    Maybe it's something got to do with your internet service provider blacklisting that domain. Seeing as you can access it via a proxy....

    iwconfig wlan0 essid YOUR_ESSID
    iwconfig wlan0 mode managed
    iwconfig wlan0 YOUR_KEY
    dhclient3

    You'll probably need to sudo those

    Did you try the guidelines in the link I provided ?
    I doubt its a network manager issue.
    If you still think it might be, then try connecting manually in the shell.

    Yeah the wireless was the only reason I was dualbooting for the first few months.
    Then as soon as I got the wireless going, i dropped windows.

    Maybe try that if it worked for 8.10.
