Re: A good BitTorrent client for GNOME?

A killer feature in Transmission 8.0 is the ability to control it from the command line even if it's a gnome GUI app:

add torrent into the gui app:
    transmission-remote -t gtk -a...

Re: We Need to Kill GNOME

I don't believe he was looking for help. His intentions were very clear. It'd only waste server space to post solutions in a kde-gnome flamewar.

Re: We Need to Kill GNOME

egcs folks wrote the code first, named the thing later. Actually, they came up with the egcs name because they couldn't get their patches into gcc's upstream.

Re: We Need to Kill GNOME

What's the most annoying thing in those flamewars are the blanket statements made from both sides:

    Gnome:
    - Gnome fanboy: gnome is easier to use!
    - Observer: give me an example to back up your...

Re: We Need to Kill GNOME

My view on this KDE vs Gnome thing:

KDE folks want to create a framework. IMO, they've built an excellent one. With KDE4/Qt4, it'd be possible to port KDE apps to other platforms such as Windows...

Re: We Need to Kill GNOME

But on the other hand, C++ is an awful OO language! After 6 years writing C++ in the industry (from 95 to 2001) I finally saw the light. OOP without GC is just unmanageable in large-scale...

Re: Command needed to convert text to hex

Not really a single line but will do until 256 octets (that is 512 hex characters per line)

    cat file | xxd -c 256 -ps

The -ps option is for plain style. I believe that's what you're after.

    Re: "power" of a language

Agree, call/cc is awesome. Once you mastered Scheme's continuations, Java/C++/Python exception handling would look so primitive.

    Re: looping vs. recursion

OOP would be in "Computer Engineering" and not "Computer Science" like the others. All the above items, except OOP, can be used in a proof or some quantitative tests (benchmarks).

    Re: looping vs. recursion

    Re: looping vs. recursion

    Agree,

an embedded programmer checks the generated assembly from any non trivial code (and hot-path code.)
gcc knows how to convert tail-recursion code into loop anyway.
