[ubuntu] Slow mdadm resync speed due to interrupts?

I recently upgraded my server from an AMD Opteron 165 dual core to a Xeon X3430 quad core & SUPERMICRO MBD-X8SIL-F-O.

I did a --grow --chunk=256 to increase my chunksize and rebuild is super slow....

Glad you fixed your problem. After you installed all the original disks what you should have done is try to _assemble_ the array, not re-create it. Creating is a potentially bad and destructive...

    [ubuntu] Re: mdadm level migration

If anyone is brave enough to try a raid5->raid6 migration with only a one disk addition under 9.04 with a manually installed 2.6.32 kernel, please let me know :)

    [ubuntu] Re: mdadm level migration

For future reference, this is a known bug which is apparently patched 7 days after 3.1.1 was released. So if one wants to upgrade from raid5 to raid6 with one disk addition, they will need to...

    [ubuntu] mdadm level migration

    Hi,

I've installed the experimental deb of mdadm 3.1.1, which I intended to use to migrate from a 4 disk raid5 to a 5 disk raid6, but mdadm won't ahve any of it. Running 9.04 64bit server.

  9. [ubuntu] Re: installing an experimental package (specifically mdadm 3.1.1) ?

You have any luck getting 3.1.1 to work? What version of ubuntu are you running? I'm looking to level migrate my raid5 to raid6 :)
  10. [ubuntu] Re: Software Raid 5 Migration with a file system change

Should be okay, I've done this twice. Just triple check before you execute any command :)
  11. [ubuntu] Re: How do I turn my two Raid 5's into Raid 50?

probably. try it before you put any data on and see what happens

I managed to get this driver compiled and installed under 9.04 x64 and figured out the kernel panics later were from using munin which polls the drives with hddtemp (which according to highpoint...

Looks like I was wrong, --create doesn't necessarily destroy your data. I tried it on my virtual machine and it was okay, but ymmv:

There's also a good chance the NAS uses its own filesystem you won't be able to mount. What's the make/ model

[ubuntu] Re: New and have a "#mdadm --assemble" question

Sorry I missed where you said you mounted by
    #mount -t ext3 /dev/md2 /media/disk/shares

    did it work?

if you're worried about writing to the disk you can mount with the -r readonly flag?

[ubuntu] Re: New and have a "#mdadm --assemble" question

    mkfs.ext3 /dev/md2
will format your drives, don't do this.

Try specifying the filesystem with the -t ext3 flag when you mount.

[all variants] Re: RAID not found at boot

You might want to add the ARRAY line to your mdadm.conf so it has an easier time assembling. Looks like you have multiple arrays too so you'll definitely want to do this.

I just meant dpkg-reconfigure, but to be honest if it's detecting some arrays but not others I doubt that will do much for you.

[ubuntu] Re: Server 8.04 - mdadm drives messed up

I'm confused why members of the same raid set don't have the same UUID in the blkid output. I just tried making a raid1 and it they show up the same. How did you manage to get them different?
