    The drive has to be mounted, that was an example.

    In the gparted or disk utility, you must specify a mount point for the drive.

    Second answer to your second question:

    Yes, it is possible to make samba not ask for username/pass.
    In the /etc/samba/smb.conf file, change the security=user to security=share

    Correct, because you need to apply some permissions to them. So if your Ubuntu server drive is mounted to something like /mnt/drive, then apply permissions to it from the terminal.

    Does the /home/user/www dir exist? It must exist first. Thats the only other thing I can think of. It should just work.
