The escape character works nicely thanks! My conky now looks great. I attach a screenshot.
I found the problem. You need to use execpi rather than execi in .conkyrc in order to pass the image locations. It says so on the original post here:
...
Here is the output from conky at a cli:
Conky: desktop window (c00022) is subwindow of root window (15a)
Conky: window type - normal
Conky: drawing to created window (0x2e00001)
Conky: drawing...
OK so I put the following line in .conkyrc
${execi 1800 conkyForecastWU -t /home/richard/conkyFor.template}
and in /home/richard/conkyFor.template
I put
${image [--datatype=WI...
Thanks for your reply. I don't mind using images rather than fonts but am unclear how the conky image command interfaces with conkyForecastWU. Executing the script on the cli produces an image (or...
Apologies if this has already been answered. I switched to the conkyForecastWU script and the following .conkyrc line is not working now:
${font ConkyWeather:size=36}${execi 1800 conkyForecastWU...
Yes Cinnamon 1.4 is a nice stable desktop. I prefer it now to Mate, Gnome classic, gnome shell or Unity.
The great thing about FOSS is the choice available.

I had problems also on rebooting. I think these extensions interact with each other so you need to fiddle. Hopefully a gnome...
Well you could start with me. I shifted to Ubuntu from Fedora in 2004 and installed Warty Warthog in late October 2004. I have been very happy with every release without exception until 11.04 and...
I used it from Mint but you can get it on a standard Ubuntu 11.10 install by adding some Mint repos (see the post above yours).
I had the same attitude you have until I actually tried MATE out. I...
No it isn't. The MATE project i.e. forked gnome 2 is alive and kicking. I tried it out for a couple of hours yesterday and it is nearly up to scratch. Kudos to Perebos.
The post 3501 worked for me as well in the US. I had to
1) Comment out the Partner ID line
2) Insert the BASE_XOAP_URL line given in 3501 at the end of the config file
You can add, move and delete things to the panels in gnome classic aka gnome-fallback. Use the alt key with your mouse. More options appear....
I am toying with trying gnome classic but am still a...
Thanks. I am a much bigger fan of classic than unity.
I can see Ossining from my front yard :p
That did the trick. Gnome classic has improved over the course of 11.10 development and is almost usable:)
So I am trying out 11.10 and want gnome classic. I installed the gnome-fallback package and when I logout of unity I am given the option gnome classic with and without effects. Neither work when...
I want to switch off 3d i.e. dri on my laptop to save power. There is a bug in the intel video driver that makes it generate excess wakeups and thus increase power consumption. I don't use 3d so this...
The new kernel worked for me as well. The temperature is about 3-5C cooler.
I am using the intel video driver on a Thinkpad X300. What is odd is that powertop shows double the number of wakeups with...

There seem to be a lot of reports of laptops running hotter and battery life declining under Lucid. I have researched this thoroughly as I have two laptops (thinkpads) with this issue. I am beginning...

You may need to take one of the templates given and modify it to meet your institutions requirements. If you look at the Help in Lyx...
There is also a latex plugin for gedit that works nicely with a dual panel viewer.
Yeah I am well aware of the differences and have used all three extensively :lolflag:. I write highly mathematical papers all the time and lyx handles the complicated setups very nicely. It is rare...
