I had a lot of issues with DVD drive at the beginning. All disappeared when I switched from AHCI to IDE in the BIOS settings. Also dmesg log is absolutely clean after this change. Using BIOS v1.23...

If you want to use ATI card, go to BIOS and select 'Discrete' in video mode. This switches off Intel video card. Install latest ATI drivers from amd.com and enjoy ... but battery will drop quicker...
