    [ubuntu] Online audio preview broken

I used to be able to preview audio files at sounddogs.com. Now it just wants to download the file when I click on it. Since I don't do this often, I just noticed it's not working.

    I recently...

    [ubuntu] Re: Flash drive permissions

Forgot to mention that before I tried the above, I reformatted the drive. It made no difference. It still was mounting as root.

    [ubuntu] Re: Flash drive permissions

OMG!! This seems to be working!! You are my hero!!!

    The question is . . .

WHY isn't it mounting automatically with the correct permissions? There should be a way to fix this somewhere in...

    [ubuntu] Re: Flash drive permissions

Oh, I can make a folder in /media and set the owner and user. That's not the problem. The disk wants to mount on /media/disk. If that folder is created with proper permissions, it is just ignored...

    [ubuntu] Re: Flash drive permissions

That's exactly what I did. It won't work - root keeps getting 'permission denied' when it tries to make the change. AAAARRRGGGH! And even if it could be changed, next time the drive is mounted, it...

    [ubuntu] Re: Flash drive permissions

I know I tried this before but gave it another shot. I created the folder /media/disk with user permissions. Plugged in the drive. It just ignored the folder I created and mounted on...

    [ubuntu] Re: Flash drive permissions

Alas . . . I have tried before to change the owner/group of 'media/disk and it's a no go as was this attempt.

    ~$ sudo chown root:plugdev /media/disk
    chown: changing ownership of '/media/disk':...

    [ubuntu] Re: Flash drive permissions

Thanks for responding. You can see everything is owned by root. External hard drives are fine. Just the flash drive is buggy. Anyone other ideas?

[gnome] Dots used for hidden characters

How can I change those heavy black dots that are generated in the hidden password field to asterisks? I have looked in gconf-editor but haven't run across it. Or maybe it's in a totally different...

    [ubuntu] Flash drive permissions

I recently moved to Hardy. My flash drive (vfat) mounts and is readable but I discovered that only root can write to the drive. I have been all over this forum and Google for days but have not...

[ubuntu] Re: Only half a Desktop!

Thanks for your input. It hasn't happened again but every so often a window (different aps) will jump almost off screen. Very weird. This never happened with Compiz on Gutsy.

  18. [ubuntu] Re: DVDStyler error - Unsupported codec (id=86020)

Have FINALLY gotten everything sorted. VLC started to behave once it was set as the default player.
  19. [ubuntu] Re: DVDStyler error - Unsupported codec (id=86020)

Reread your suggestion and UPDATED the packages. It's now creating the ISO. Unfortunately, there are no menu buttons and sound is coming on track 2 on VLC. More things to fix . . .
  20. [ubuntu] Re: DVDStyler error - Unsupported codec (id=86020)

Thanks for the suggestion. Have already done the Medibuntu thing. Maybe I should install the dev packages too?
  21. [ubuntu] Re: DVDStyler error - Unsupported codec (id=86020)

OK. I followed instructions in that thread (omitting Flash and Sun Java) but DVDStyler is still throwing up the error.

What am I missing here? Please help!!
  22. [ubuntu] Re: DVDStyler error - Unsupported codec (id=86020)

DUH! As I said, it's been a long time since I last struggled with this.

I just installed libdvdcss2 and non-free-codecs but still no joy. I would just go ahead and install...
  23. [ubuntu] DVDStyler error - Unsupported codec (id=86020)

I have been using DVDStyler 1.7.0 for years on Gutsy Gibbon to create DVDs from mpgs created by Avidemux.2.4 (r3322). I can't remember what it took to get it working it's so long ago. All I know is...

The new site barely gets there on dialup. I could make a cup of tea while a page loads! Seems like the web developers are as clueless about dialup as the Ubuntu developers. Thankfully, at least...
