[ubuntu] Re: chat (msn) + webcam

At least Skype works. Without that, I dunno how camming with family/friends would be possible all these years (except keeping dual boot in place) I know Google Talk has webcam capability now, but...
  2. [lubuntu] Re: Ability to unencrypt ecryptfs recovered files? (no partition to mount)

There is no partition to recover. I formatted (because not formatting wasn't working) and put a new /Home partition there before I realised there are tools to recover the files that are there,...
  3. [lubuntu] Ability to unencrypt ecryptfs recovered files? (no partition to mount)

I lost my partition (damaged) when I changed between two versions of Ubuntu and unfortunately went on to create a new partition, same username, same password.

I belatedly used Photorec and got...
  4. [ubuntu] Re: Skype frequently breaking under Ubuntu 11.04

this is getting quite annoying actually. I noticed this immediately since I use skype quite a bit. The error is also happening with Linux Mint 11RC.
  5. [ubuntu] Re: Solution to Broadcom 43xx Card Problem (11.04, Natty Narwhal)

My card comes up as 14e4:4311 and it's the other way round for Ubuntu 11.04. B43 must be removed. STA must be installed after flushing everything. However, with Linux Mint 11RC your advice works...
  6. [ubuntu] Re: Solution to Broadcom 43xx Card Problem (11.04, Natty Narwhal)

There seems to be a number of different fixes to this issue doesn't there? This might make fixing the issue globally for a number of Broadcom wifi card owners on different systems a lot harder to...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: Solution to Broadcom 43xx Card Problem (11.04, Natty Narwhal)

okay, Linux Mint 11 RC is out, and both 32 and 64bit versions require you to install the B43 driver in Package Manager to get the 4311 wifi card working. On installing the OS, the STA driver is not...
  8. [ubuntu] Re: Solution to Broadcom 43xx Card Problem (11.04, Natty Narwhal)

    Dell Inspiron 1520, Broadcom 4311

    on fresh install of 11.04:

    1) attach ethernet lead
    2) in "additional drivers", turn off STA driver that was auto installed after vanilla 11.04 install
    3) in...
  9. [ubuntu] Re: I have no wirless after update to 11.04 please help

Okay, I copied every fix there was into a file I saved in my /home folder and then reinstalled 11.04 and this sorted me out.

    1) attach ethernet lead
    2) in "additional drivers", turn off STA...
  10. [ubuntu] Re: I have no wirless after update to 11.04 please help

Okay, booted into live and chose to install STA. When installed I had a popup saying wifi was on, all looked normal, but when I clicked the icon in topright in the taskbar there was no evidence of...
  11. [ubuntu] Re: I have no wirless after update to 11.04 please help

I'll give that a try when I'm back in tonight.

So, boot from live, select STA, use that command before restart, check wifi works and immediately install 11.04?
  12. [ubuntu] Re: I have no wirless after update to 11.04 please help

    here's a fix I have successfully tried:

0n the main ubuntu site, download version 10.10 of the operating system, or go grab Mint 10 instead (very user friendly flavour of Ubuntu), install over...
  13. [ubuntu] Re: Solution to Broadcom 43xx Card Problem (11.04, Natty Narwhal)

I have 4311 also and STA says it is activated in additional drivers, but in the network manager it does not show wireless as working at all. Interesting "upgrade" this is from 10.10.
  14. [ubuntu] Re: I have no wirless after update to 11.04 please help

oops, I was using Ailurus to tell me and I thought that was the wifi card. Lspci comes up with the same model wifi card as the thread starter

[ubuntu] Re: Add/Remove Applications doesn't work

I have been hit by this after upgrading the current release of Uberstudent (10.04) manually to 10.10. It's an annoyance right now, having to install everything manually.

  18. [ubuntu] Brother MFC-215C installation (Mint 8 and 9)

  19. Re: Which Linux distro would you recommend to an absolute NOOB

One came out 31st March 2010. I guess the last time you checked will have been a month or more ago then. The community versions do take a while longer to come out than the main Mint edition.
