    Re: Big Ugly Analog Clock

+1 to the OP and Mehall's response!

I've never understood the attraction to desktop widgets. They make for nice eye candy in screen shots, but seem impractical for everyday use.

Re: When is firefox gonna be updated in ubuntu?

Nah... I only installed it a few days ago! When I first saw "Shiretoko" I got freaked out, did a search to find out what the $%^&#$ it was and read it was a beta.

Re: When is firefox gonna be updated in ubuntu?

My mistake... I thought I saw "Beta" in my installation's "about" screen.

I guess I understand the distinction, but in the case of something like the default browser I consider this is a...

Re: When is firefox gonna be updated in ubuntu?

I apologize in advance to those who see this as pointless complaining... but the current implementation of Firefox 3.5 via synaptic is pretty disappointing.

I realize there are workarounds for the...

    Re: Ubuntu Buddhist Editon

Maybe someone could develop a form of login karma where how productive you are in a session determines how well your system runs on your next reboot?

    Sorry, couldn't resist. :)

    I actually think...
  7. Re: Help I deleted a panel and can't get it back ! :s

You could also just add "Window List" and whatever other gnome applets you want to the top panel and live without a bottom panel... It frees up a little more desktop real-estate. :)

    Re: Contact sheet/collage generation soft

    Hi geneross,
There's Gnome Photo Printer and PhotoPrint... both under Add/Remove programs. I can't vouch for either since I haven't tried them yet, but it looks like they both do what you are...

[ubuntu] Re: Cannot play saved .gif animations.

It may just be the application you are opening them with doesn't play Gif animations... My system opens them for preview in Eye of Gnome which does not.

Try right clicking the Gif file and...

  12. Re: What additional does Linux need...to make the Windows antiquated

I think all Linux is really missing is better support from hardware vendors. Most of the complexity people experience is a result of some device not working properly. The community does an incredible...

[ubuntu] Re: new user networking problems

+1 to this... I had issues with 8.10 and gnome network manager applet on my laptop... It constantly prompted me to reenter my Wifi network password at login and only connected sporadically.

Re: Convert .xcf to .jpg or other?

There is also a great "Save for Web" plug-in for Gimp (similar to PhotoShop's Save for Web). It allows you to preview different compression options.

Re: 8.10 and still no new theme?!?
