I don't have compiz, it does not work because of blacklisting (and I don't fancy it either).

Well, therein lies the rub: I don't observe any abnormal CPU utilization. It's around 3% right now, but CPU is 65C.
My /proc/mtrr was already fixed after installing the packages in this guide (965GMA chipset, X3100 gfx), so no need to run mtrr-fix script.
I also enabled UXA and did not disable Tiling. So far...
