As noteb by "regala", it seems it tries to mount /dev/sda1 (which is you harddrive) instead of the usb drive /dev/sdb1.

You have ubuntu (which comes with the Gnome desktop-environment)
And you installed kubuntu, which in effect installed the Kde desktop-environment and a bunch of programs for Kde.

Hi InkyDinky, clarifying your thoughts - these instruction are for 32 bits systems, not for 64bits.
I'll comment a little the "Install libstdc++.so.5" section:

Try the instructions of this other thread , they are for Ubuntu 10.04 (and most probably also work with newer ubuntus)
I have a feeling they will also work for your Lexmark model
