That's pretty weird. Seems that your settings are being wiped out everytime you close firefox.
Another way of adding a page to your homepage is by dragging the favicon of the page to the home icon in Firefox.

That command should work. It will reinstall KDE and remove all GNOME's programs.
Edit:I know what happened. When you unistalled Ubuntu-desktop it disinstalled all the programs the come shipped...

I like Ubuntu better. It is much more simple then KDE even though KDE looks nice. KDE seems to difficult for me to use.
