Really, just use the gnome-mount command. It will save you a lot of trouble. Look at page 1, i told you the syntax.
you can force an fsck on next boot by opening a terminal and issuing this command
sudo touch /forcefsck
then reboot.

If you want to use mount, you need to fix your spacing like such-
sudo mount /dev/sdb1 /media/disk
/dev/sdb1 is the path to...
You are typing sdbl as in the letter L, "el". You want to type sdb1 as in the number one (1).
unless your system is totally broken, you have mount. Check your spacing. Do you have a space between sudo and mount?
