Solved.. I forgot to say I was using the same /home I had in ubuntu8.04. I deleted the folder .local in my home and now everything works fine.

I know how to compile using xelatex, but I do not know what you mean with "use the ttf font". I suppose that ttf stands for true type font. Could you be more detailed, please?

I worked out perfectly, except for one "little" thing:

all the "\" character where trasformed in "¥".

I solved it typing from vim :%s/¥/\\/g , but I had to do it for three documents.. is there...

I do not know, I just have the file .tex coming from a japanese windows computer.
How can I change the encoding in vim? What type of encoding do you think will be ok?
