Personally I would rather try XFCE as it will be lighter I reckon while still providing full functionality but if it works for you and you are happy then that's all that matters.
Have you used Crunchbang? I don't recall having to install any extra stuff to make it work?
Well install xfce or lxde for them...
See my post above about Crunchbang which is Debian 7 (Wheezy) and they have a version available with non-pae kernel.
Crunchbang & Manjaro Openbox will run fine on it. If Openbox is not to your linking install xfce (or lxde) as xfce minimal install without all the extra crap is light enough, I've done it on...
