Re: SCRIPT: GrubED - GUI Grub editing. New version 17th September.

    Hi onetwothree,

I wouldn't recommend using GrubEd these days - there are much more advanced grub boot editors available now. That said - if you still want to run GrubEd (there's no real reason why...
  2. Re: RIAA Attacks the Free Software Foundation...

That's because the RIAA is trying to make a profit from something with unlimited supply and limited demand: music in the digital age can be copied as many times as one desires. The RIAA wants to...

Re: Why do so many people hate kd4?

KDE4 - I don't hate it, but it doesn't make it easy for me to like it. Their 're-imagining' of the desktop has introduced a bunch of crap I don't care about and hidden the stuff I want to use. Maybe...

    Re: Linux Haters Magazine???

The great thing about Linux Haters is that they're pretty much right on the money. They may not be very professional or 'nice' about how they point out Linux' problems, but they are mostly correct....

Poll: Re: On-screen reading: Serif vs Sans Serif

I prefer sans-serif for most things, but serif can be good occasionally. I just think serif fonts are harder to use in a 'good' way for designers / developers.

    Re: Webdesigner war on IE6

If they restrict users from running .exe files, then user's won't be able to do much at all :P

Re: BumpTop - a modern computer desktop

Probably more annoying to use than the traditional. 3d desktops never really work out well for the simple fact that it becomes difficult to track where you left something.

    Re: The Irony Mark

If you need to illustrate when you're trying to be ironic, then you're probably doing it wrong anyway.

Re: Omegle - Honestly, best thing invented ever

I used this for the first time yesterday, and had a few good conversations about music and such. I'll keep using it I think, but it takes a while to find somebody who actually wants to talk rather...

Re: How to hold my cat's paw still.

I too can testify that grabbing the back of the cat's neck firmly will make them submissive. Sometimes my cat likes to just run around the house. Normally I don't mind, but if it gets annoying I get...
  12. Poll: Re: So how many of you when switching to linux, picked up programming?

I was already programming before I started using Linux 'full time', but Linux definitely makes it a lot easier to mess about with programming. The fact that everything is open and accessible is...

Re: website css position and html question.

The div with id 'middle' appears in the middle. Main page content goes in here.

    The div...
  14. Re: Not linux related - question on job hunting - your advice pls

Re: website css position and html question.

Basically (save to html file and view in firefox):

    <html>
    <head></head>
    <body>
    <div id="left" style="float: left; height: 100%; width: 25%; background-color: blue;"></div>
    <div id="middle"...
  16. Re: Holy crap: Novell chooses naming scheme for Opensuse but...

It's certainly not an ideal choice - but the guy was around in the 18th and 19th century. As wrong as it was, it's hardly a rare thing to hear people from those days being anti-semitic.

Re: MS TV ad attack MAC on price.

I find it somewhat disturbing (well, not really) that virtually no computer users see themselves as 'very satisfied' (across the whole spectrum of operating systems). Only a Mac breaches the 50%...

Re: is software development becoming common?

I think high level languages and toolkits will become common-place, yes - but things like C, Java, even Python will remain fairly inaccessible to regular computer users. Programming should be taught...

Re: How do I do this?

Good idea. With respect to the opengl - I think the only reason you may need to worry about this is the overhead. Although I may be completely wrong here - I'm pretty sure you could still use OpenGL...

Re: HTML and CSS div alignment issue

Careful with min / max heights in CSS! Lots of people still use IE6 which doesn't support them (I think it's fixed in IE7 though).

Re: How do I do this?

Maybe not - I suppose it depends on your implementation. Java applets don't need to be re-compiled to work on different platforms - the only requirement is that the user has Java installed. However,...

Sounds like an annoying problem! It would probably be easier to isolate the problem if you posted some code. Did you actually change any of the code when you moved to Ubuntu?

Re: How do I do this?

I may be wrong here - but I would imagine that the Flash player is a program which can play flash movies, whilst the 'plugin' is just a wrapper around it to ensure the browser can make use of it. So...

Re: Why is Ubuntu releasing new version?

Actually, every version of Ubuntu undergoes significant changes under the hood. It's just not realistic to push every version as a collection of updates, because things WILL break.
