[ubuntu] Re: Designing and building a dual-boot PC?

It sure is. I played the same game last week, and it took a lot of reading.

I'm not really sure on this either. I've heard advice to match the RAM speed to the FSB speed, but with a 1333 FSB...

[ubuntu] Re: Designing and building a dual-boot PC?

You might be surprised at the power requirements - since the P4 days, especially with the E8400 CPU (very low power), they've come down a fair bit. Check out http://extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine...

puffyzcad (or anyone else that's reading this):
I found a bit of a problem with that fdi policy. Apparently the BT receiver reports itself as having mouse capabilities, so I was getting all kinds...
  4. [ubuntu] Re: HOWTO: MX5000 Bluetooth Keyboard and MX1000 Laser Mouse Combo in Hardy

puffyzcad, that's amazing, I'd given up on that problem! I found that the fdi stuff also works when added to /etc/hal/fdi/policy/preferences.fdi in case you want to have everything in one file. ...

    [all variants] /etc/default/acpi-support deprecated?

I've had trouble hibernating ever since I installed Hardy, even though it used to work in Gutsy. I tried changing all sorts of things in /etc/default/acpi-support to no avail. Then, I noticed that...
  6. [ubuntu] Re: HOWTO: MX5000 Bluetooth Keyboard and MX1000 Laser Mouse Combo in Hardy

Even though the list only goes to Button9, try just typing in Button10 - it should work fine.

Re: HOWTO: setup all 12 buttons on your mx1000

What do you want to do with the thumb button? I have mine mapped to the scale plugin in compiz, it's Button10. ccsm won't give you Button10 in the drop-down list, but if you type it in it works...

Re: Adobe Flash Player 10 BETA released!

Seems to be a bit better - I get ~30% CPU instead of 50% when watching videos. Still can't do the on-the-fly resizing at break.com, but I'm glad to see things are getting better.

    Re: Rhythmbox Needs You!

I like the icons and clean layout, although it might be a bit confusing to have navigation links at the top that are identical to the icon stuff. I do agree that less text on the front page is nice...
  10. [ubuntu] Re: HOWTO: MX5000 Bluetooth Keyboard and MX1000 Laser Mouse Combo in Hardy

I've got this same problem (at least with the mouse, not sure why your keyboard would stop working). I think it's because when the mouse goes to sleep (to save batteries) the evdev driver is...
  11. [ubuntu] Re: HOWTO: MX5000 Bluetooth Keyboard and MX1000 Laser Mouse Combo in Hardy

It could be RF (I believe logitech has an RF version). Is your mouse detected when you use the bluetooth preferences to pair the devices (as per the first post in this thread)? If not, then it...
  12. [ubuntu] Re: HOWTO: MX5000 Bluetooth Keyboard and MX1000 Laser Mouse Combo in Hardy

I think the thing that's breaking your X is the line 'InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer"'. You have no device named "Mouse0" in your configuration file, so it's going to complain when it looks...
  13. [ubuntu] Re: HOWTO: MX5000 Bluetooth Keyboard and MX1000 Laser Mouse Combo in Hardy

Open up a terminal, and type in "cat /proc/bus/input/devices". This should spit out a list of devices and tell you which event controls which. The line you need for is "Handlers=mousex, eventy".
  14. [ubuntu] Re: HOWTO: MX5000 Bluetooth Keyboard and MX1000 Laser Mouse Combo in Hardy

That is a very strange result. On my computer, without the xbindkeys configuration, I get no output from xbindkeys -k. If it's the same with your system, then it seems as though the keybinding is...
  15. [ubuntu] Re: HOWTO: MX5000 Bluetooth Keyboard and MX1000 Laser Mouse Combo in Hardy

Hi! You bring up a very good point - xbindkeys isn't necessary if you want to bind the mouse buttons to compiz functions. I don't actually use multiple desktops (I have a bad habit of forgetting...

[ubuntu] Re: adding boot option in menu.lst

If the UUID did not change during the upgrade (and I'm not sure why it would), then you should be fine. If you want to double check, you can try:

    sudo vol_id -u /dev/yourrootdevice (sda1, sdb1,...
  17. [ubuntu] Re: HOWTO: MX5000 Bluetooth Keyboard and MX1000 Laser Mouse Combo in Hardy

Glad to hear the bluetooth stuff is working for you. As to the thumb buttons, let's try checking to see if xbindkeys is configured properly. Try typing this in:

    xbindkeys -k
    When the little...
  18. [ubuntu] HOWTO: MX5000 Bluetooth Keyboard and MX1000 Laser Mouse Combo in Hardy

I had a ton of problems with this set in Gutsy, but it went much more smoothly in Hardy, so I thought I'd post what I did to get them working just right.

    Pairing the Bluetooth Devices

    I needed...

[ubuntu] Re: Can Ubuntu read U3 USB memory sticks?

It seems as though you're asking whether you can access the data partition of your U3 stick while leaving the rest alone, not looking for a U3 alternative. If that's the case, then you might be out...
