[xubuntu] Re: keyboard shortcuts not working in 11.04

For me the problem was the way I was trying to run Compiz on top of xfce. I've now abandoned compiz and have had no further problems with keyboard shortcuts.

[xubuntu] Re: keyboard shortcuts not working in 11.04

This seems to be a fix for a problem in xfce 4.6 that is not needed in 4.8. It certainly doesn't fix my problem.

    Thanks for trying though.

[xubuntu] Re: keyboard shortcuts not working in 11.04

Keyboard shortcuts work for me if I've been using something that expects keyboard input (terminal, writer etc), but if I've most recently been using something that uses mouse only input the system...
  5. Re: Making EVERYTHING of Compiz + Emerald work on Xubuntu 11.04

An easy solution is to use a different window-decorater.

If you install compiz and ccsm from the repos open ccsm, go into the Window Decoration plugin and type, "gtk-window-decorator" where it...

[kubuntu] Re: no desktop after upgrade - nvidia

I've been having similar problems. I haven't got to the bottom of it, but removing the proprietary nvidia drivers and then reinstalling them seemed to fix it for me.

I did all the removing and...

[ubuntu] Ejecting an android phone from Rhythmbox

I've just bought a new android phone. When I plug it into the computer, thunar (I'm using xubuntu) opens and mounts it automatically. This is good. However, if I've got Rhythmbox running, it also...
  8. [xubuntu] Re: Unwanted Pop-up dialog from mail-notification

    Thanks for replying.

    I want the notifications!

I'm also getting these extra dialog windows. Those are what I want to get rid of.
  9. [xubuntu] Unwanted Pop-up dialog from mail-notification

I've been using mail-notification from the repos for ages to monitor my gmail account with no problems. Since I upgraded to Karmic, it's been popping up an irritating dialog window whenever a new...

[xubuntu] Re: Help with UK English Spellcheck in OO 3.0

Unfortunately it doesn't. That thread is concerned with getting the thesaurus working assuming you already have the UK spell checker working. My problem is with the spell checker. Thanks for trying...

    Re: Worksheet Generator (maths)

No, I gave up. I haven't tried it in ages. A newer version of wine might have solved the problem I suppose.

    Re: Better Wallpaper Switcher

There's no real need. If you go into the settings manager -> desktop you'll see you can create lists of wallpapers for XFCE to switch between.

Once a file as has been set up, adding the command...

  15. [all variants] Re: Advertise your 'buntu loyalty the subtle way

    No problem.

If you've downloaded the file and extracted it, you must have told the system where to extract it to. You've probably found that using Nautilus. If you click on the extracted folder...

  22. [ubuntu] Re: Is it User Friendly?

[all variants] Re: mkdir and wildcards query

    Sounds plausible - disappointing.

I suppose I can write a bash script that cds down the directory structure and creates the new directory in a loop.

    Thanks for the reply.

[all variants] Re: mkdir and wildcards query

Yes, there isn't a directory called toplevel - it was a made up name in an attempt to illustrate what I was talking about. And, yes, I'd need to be in whatever directory contained toplevel for that...
