This is a single user computer. I am the only user on it.
@ Dennis N - That readout was truncated. There are a LOT of .hidden files and folders.
@ sudodus - Permissions on those files are -rw------.
@ Dennis N - I had no problem with sudodus' rsync -av Source/ Destination, just backing up one folder, but it does not work for a real backup because I get a "Permission Denied" on all of the...
@ sudodus +1 - Thank you for the exercises....and they were good ones. I learned a lot. Like "Keep it simple!"
I checked and the pendrives are formatted ext4. I used two pendrives. I did this with the first:
sudo rsync -varxPzh /source/ /destination
It returned the same error as before.
The second...
I am the root user. The pendrive should be ext4....will check.
I am trying (and learning) to use rsync to back up my files (Everybody says "Back up before you do anything major.") Good advice. I am trying to back up my Home folder to a USB pendrive. I used the...

Thanks, all you folks.
You need to use gksudo with gedit.

@ oscar17; Snube (the OP -Original Poster) had the same problem (white screen), and I believe the comments in this thread helped him solve it.
@ wamses2 - Purging and reinstalling seems to have gotten T-Bird back and running. I even still had my folders and saved emails. (This happened to me in Windows several months ago.).
