Free software and free documentation are both about collaboration. As with software, new ideas and new aims are healthy to improving things.
Unfortunately people don't think as carefully about...
I'd like the place for people to think of when searching for help to be the help website. And I agree that rating and comments can be useful for improving documentation pages, if used properly. I do...
(editing this post due to a initial misunderstanding about the site's aims)
It's a nice idea but I'd like to see a way to integrate this sort of approach into the main Ubuntu help website....
Please file a bug about this at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu-website/+bugs and include the details you would like to see added.
I've just announced the creation of a Screencast Team, and they need your help!
Screencasts are videos which show users how to achieve a specific task in Ubuntu. They can be seriously useful when...
The documentation team develops a "Switching from Windows" guide which you might like to look at. It should be in good shape for Feisty and I'd be keen to hear ideas about what it could be used for....
Can you insert a sticky at the top of the Loco forums list with a link to other LoCo support resources which aren't hosted on ubuntuforums? Most of the mainstream teams have their own forums and...
Yeah, you simply follow the link to login, register in Launchpad (if you haven't already), and then edit away.
I think we should do more of them, definitely. In the future we can publicise them on the forum, the Fridge, planet Ubuntu and the major mailing lists.
If you're interested in helping out, please...
Ah ok. Revert is limited to wiki administrators, sorry.
Click "Page History" at the top left of the page, then find the revision you want to revert to, and click "Revert" on the right hand side.
See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WikiToDo
Well spotted. It is under "Page History". I've reverted it.
Are you referring to this page: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromWindows?
You can simply correct the page yourself by logging in and editing it, or alternatively, you can open a...
This is a good initiative. It's a shame it was only posted in the forum and wasn't made a more community-wide scheme. It's also a shame that the documentation team wasn't made aware of it.
Maybe...
I wasn't intending to point out a change - simply a small bug. Obviously, the smaller the bug, the longer it will generally take to get noticed, because it's less prominent and/or important.
No...
The forum theme is looking really good at the moment. One thing - you can't see links in the brown bar near the top of each page, unless you mouse-over them.
For example, on the Feisty forum...
The problem you describe occurs when you edit a page and someone else is editing it at the same time. The wiki preserves both edits as an "edit conflict", in order to try to minimise data loss.

This evening I gave a brief presentation on contributing to the Ubuntu
Documentation Project as part of the Ubuntu Open Week. Thanks to all
those who turned up and asked questions. I promised that...
Hi,
I'd like to add a question: what material would you like to see included in (a) the system documentation, and (b) the community website, that isn't currently included? That will definitely...
Upgrading from Dapper to Edgy worked really well for me.
What technique did those of you who had problems use to upgrade? The only recommended procedure is to upgrade using update-manager.
More or less. I can only speak for the documentation wiki here - obviously a community maintained website never has perfect organisation (although Wikipedia has done a better job than anyone else).
...
Ok, I'll try again.
Ok, that's neither the wiki nor the documentation website - this is the main Ubuntu website. What do you find confusing about that page? I think the separation between...
I've twigged what the problem was - it was my fault. I previewed the post instead of submitting it... doh!
Sorry for taking your time with my own mistake!
