    I made it so that the power manager starts up by using "lxsession-edit". "monitor power management control" was unchecked by default - I've now checked it to see if it makes a difference.

    Lubuntu is a much lighter alternative if you're worried about memory consumption - I'd assume that memory is higher in 13.xx because of the UI changes, as stated above.
