Normally the LTS to LTS upgrade is not offered until the first point release. For 14.04 that is 14.04.1 on 24 July.

If you look at the 14.04 release schedule, you will see 14.04.1 with no...

  3. [SOLVED] Re: Why don't do-release-upgrade / update manager have 14.04 yet?

You may want to post that suggestion in the "Community Wiki Discussions" forum. :)
I am sure an admin will move it if that is not appropriate.

Re: Why is everything slowing down?

It depends on why you want to keep learning.

For me, it was to keep current on technology for my job as a system engineer. About 2007, I was hearing things about cloud computing. In 2009, I...

    Re: hacking and cracking

I agree. I think the media will use the word hacking because they think most readers//listeners/viewers have never heard of cracking. I think they may be right. Some in the media may not know the...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: Printing addresses on business envelopes with LibreOffice Writer

Are the three PCs and one laptop running the same distro and release?

Are the 3 PCs the same model?
  8. [ubuntu] Re: Printing addresses on business envelopes with LibreOffice Writer

Just for reference, I looked at the LibreOffice website and found this.
  9. [ubuntu] Re: Printing addresses on business envelopes with LibreOffice Writer

I have LibreOffice 3.5.7.2 on my Ubuntu 12.04. Did you install LibreOffice 4.2.3.3 from somewhere other that the repository?
  10. [ubuntu] Re: Wll Unity run on Netbook w/Atom processor?

It depends on what you mean by acceptably responsive. I have 12.04 with Unity running on my Toshiba NB305 Atom Netbook with 1GB of RAM. Obviously it is not as fast at some things as my quad-core...

    Re: hacking and cracking

From the 6 replays you have gotten, I think you know that there is no definitive definition of those two terms. The explanation by PartisanEntity above is probably a good explanation.

Re: DELL HELL, ubuntu certified my derriere

The Ubuntu certified list includes model numbers. The inspiron 15/15R models on the list have Realtek wireless. I have never had the problems you describe with any Dell laptop I have owned.
  13. Re: Penguin mark test for browsers from MS

Ran Firefox 28 and got a 60. I closed Firefox, opened Chrome, and ran it from Chrome 33 and got 131 this time. Network traffic is low so I doubt my 50 mbps network has anything to do with it. I...
  14. Re: Penguin mark test for browsers from MS

On Chrome 33 I was getting between 118 and 123. I noticed that all 4 cores went to 30%. They normally run at 1 or 2%. The network showed less than 300 B/s inbound and less than 100 B/s outbound.

  16. Re: What if Linux was the only OS in existence?

Without Microsoft and Apple I question whether most people would have the option to have a home computer. They made home computers affordable and available for many non-tech people.

  19. Re: Ubuntu screenshot in Yahoo Tech article

The article is about replacing Windows XP. Not all publicity is good. Not when it is labelled "Bad idea #3: Move to Linux" and goes on to say "But here’s why it’s a bad idea: It really is a platform...

  24. Re: Why are the default installations so ugly?

I laughed at the description some people had because cows have a cloven hoof :)
  25. Re: Why are the default installations so ugly?

I think Dapper Drake was the first release to use an orange rather than brown theme. It was a LTS that was delayed by 2 months because it wasn't ready. I didn't know what a LTS was :)
