I am having a similar issue with my HP Pavilion.
Mine is a dv2000. I installed 8.04 LTS with Vista, both work fine.
All was working well and I even downloaded all the updates of more...
Never mind. Just solved it, OS X, Ubuntu, and XP professional work fine together now.
I will record what I did, since maybe this will help someone having this problem in the future.
