[ubuntu] Re: Help installing Ubuntu on eMac.

If you insist on installing it on a PPC Mac, I'd just do a clean install of Precise(12.04) if I were you. It installs fine, and everything seems to work fine out of the box...except flash of course....

    [ubuntu] Re: Networking

actually it is true. if you mark unity and all it's components for complete removal, it'll also mark your gnome DE, and it's components, for removal as well. Which basically means, I'm not wrong,...

    [ubuntu] Re: Networking

Unfortunately this is true, Dave. it's often best to stick to LTS releases of Ubuntu, other wise you'll be forced to upgrade every year. if it bugs you: move to standard Debian. chances are pretty...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: dial-up in precise with the Si3054/SM56 (intel HDA host)

I guess for now I'm giving up Ubuntu, under protest, mind you. I've imaged my install, however, in case I lose my mind and want to come back. *sighs* I just wish I didn't have to use something...
  8. [ubuntu] Re: dial-up in precise with the Si3054/SM56 (intel HDA host)

I didn't really have too many problems with dialup until lucid was released. but I had skipped all the releases between 8.04 and 10.04, so I've no idea exactly when it was changed. with dapper you...
  9. [ubuntu] Re: dial-up in precise with the Si3054/SM56 (intel HDA host)

quick update, still no luck. just got gkdialer installed, which at least provided me with an error message.
    from the syslog:

    May 7 14:43:03 sok-MT6705 pppd[3684]: pppd 2.4.5 started by root,...
  10. [ubuntu] Re: dial-up in precise with the Si3054/SM56 (intel HDA host)

I suppose I have multiple options right now, and they are as follows:

    1. give up - install puppy. works for immediate results, but has downsides, such as having to reinstall about 100+Mb worth of...
  11. [ubuntu] Re: dial-up in precise with the Si3054/SM56 (intel HDA host)

I rechecked dmesg one last time, and found something. . .maybe it's nothing, but, perhaps something not holding my breath however:

[ 212.263770] hda-intel: IRQ timing workaround is activated for...
  12. [ubuntu] Re: dial-up in precise with the Si3054/SM56 (intel HDA host)

that's sort of the gripe of the whole situation: there wasn't so much as an error message. An error message I could work with, but nothing, just " no carrier"-which it shouldn't be checking for...
  13. [ubuntu] dial-up in precise with the Si3054/SM56 (intel HDA host)

Has anyone had any luck in precise? It's been driving me nuts for the last couple weeks. I've the smartlink driver from the repository installed, along with wvdial, and all dependencies(that I'm...

    [SOLVED] Re: OS Issues

I see you've posted about this in multiple places, in any case, I'm almost tempted to say it's a ram issue. if it was a board issue itself I don't think it'd even run 10.04 or mandriva, not unless...
  19. [ubuntu] Re: Cannot get SmartLink Soft Modem working

did you ever get anywhere with this? I've the exact same modem, more or less the same problem. I think it is more of a wvdial issue, though I don't know for certain. for whatever reason, however,...
