  1. [SOLVED] Re: update for "Shell Shock" / or how to remove bash

    This is overstating it.

In the best case scenario, a Ubuntu computer without this patch can still be connected to the internet in total safety.

In the medium case scenario, a Ubuntu computer...
  2. [SOLVED] Re: update for "Shell Shock" / or how to remove bash

On my Ubuntu laptop this update came through automatically, so that when I tested it for this vulnerability at the start of this thread it was already not vulnerable.

On my Ubuntu VPSs, I had to...

  4. [SOLVED] Re: update for "Shell Shock" / or how to remove bash

Is there any specific information about this vulnerability, never mind about how to deal with it?

What is the vulnerability? Who is vulnerable and who is not? What is the attack mechanism?

    Re: Huawei e3131 mount error

To elaborate on this ... the Huawei E3131 exposes 3 devices, namely a serial/modem device for the actual communication, a mass storage device for the microSD card that you can insert in the stick and...

    NTLM authentication broken?

Recently I noticed that NTLM authentication doesn't seem to work from FireFox any more, at least not for me. I'm not sure when it was last working so I don't know what changes might have caused this....

I would guess that it has something to do with what is mentioned here. http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=18996

[SOLVED] Re: How much RAM is too much?

One other comment: If you are going to be doing any virtualisation (i.e. running multiple virtual machines on the one box) then you can go through memory very quickly and you should definitely err on...
  10. Re: Ubuntu 14.04 shutdown from gear icon looks like suspend but doesn't wake up

    Does

    shutdown -P now

    work?
  11. Re: no system76 is system settings after ubuntu update to 14.04

You are correct. I do now see 14.04.4 of the System76 driver.
  12. Re: no system76 is system settings after ubuntu update to 14.04

    I'm seeing 14.04.3 of the System76 driver.

I believe that only the OP can do that.
  13. Re: Ubuntu 14.04 shutdown from gear icon looks like suspend but doesn't wake up

Did you do a fresh install of 14.04 or did you upgrade?

I didn't have any problems with shutdown or hibernate (the only modes that I use) after my 14.04 upgrade but I have in the past had similar...

    Re: Nvidia Driver not Used

I see the same thing. However if you go to System Settings / Software & Updates / Additional Drivers

it says that the nVidia driver is in use (specifically 331.38 from nvidia-331-updates).

  15. Re: no system76 is system settings after ubuntu update to 14.04

Hmmm. I just saw an update from S76 get applied and the System 76 Driver now does show up in System Settings.

Maybe they changed their mind about this.

    Re: Google Earth

Google Earth was flaky in 13.10 and is still flaky in 14.04. Started OK twice. Crashed lots of times at the splash screen. Was really hoping that this would be reliable in 14.04.

    [ubuntu] Re: Upgrading to 14.04

    I've done every upgrade from 11.10 -> 12.04 -> 12.10 -> 13.04 -> 13.10 -> 14.04 without any hardware support issues and without any showstopper breakages. I wouldn't get too stressed about upgrading...

[SOLVED] Re: How much RAM is too much?
