  1. [ubuntu] Kodi-standalone not able to run from xession kodi.desktop

This started after the upgrade from xbmc to kodi.

I can switch to gdm, and launch gnome, and from there run 'kodi-standalone' which launches kodi just fine. So kodi works, and kodi-standalone...
  2. [SOLVED] Re: Verifying data vs backup with rsync after mdadm crisis

The benchmark is much appreciated. Thank you.

I did it with slashes after the paths and it worked as expected. When I first posted, I thought the slashes only showing differing files had to do...
  3. [SOLVED] Verifying data vs backup with rsync after mdadm crisis

I recently had a huge cascade mdadm raid failure, where 3 or 4 disks had to be ddrescued to other disks and then force assembled back together. Afterwards the ext4 partition wouldn't mount because...

[ubuntu] Re: RAID5 Array Errors Re-Assembling

What command did you use to rebuild the array after the drives were copied?
Did it take a long time to resync or rebuild or anything?

[ubuntu] Re: RAID5 Array Errors Re-Assembling

Right now you have 4 disks. sda is failing hardware, sdb is in some kind of screwed up state where it think's it's a spare and I don't know what to make of that, but fwiw if it tries rebuilding on...

[ubuntu] Re: RAID5 Array Errors Re-Assembling

I don't know why /dev/sdb was a spare that time. Sometimes drives will get marked as spare if mdadm doesn't know what to do with them (this is a naive statement that I can't back up with...

[ubuntu] Re: File Server mdadm raid5 has crashed

This epic saga continues. First, thanks everyone that helped me in this thread, I would have been useless without all these hints. Now I have recovered most of the more important part of my data,...
  8. [ubuntu] Re: mdadm: crashed reshape, missing backup, --invalid-backup flag?

I did post this exact question to linux-raid and that quote from Neil was his direct response to me, sorry if that was not clear. (I made this ubuntuforums post because it took quite a while to get...
  9. [ubuntu] Re: mdadm: crashed reshape, missing backup, --invalid-backup flag?

Rubylaser you helped me a lot with this in the previous episode but I made a new thread because after you helped me get the array assembled and it was working, my "re-breaking" it with a reshape...
  10. [ubuntu] mdadm: crashed reshape, missing backup, --invalid-backup flag?

I was reshaping a 5x2tb raid5 to a 6x2tb raid6. Not knowing that ubuntu deletes the /tmp/ folder each reboot, I specified my --backup-file as /tmp/raid-backup.bak (this is not part of the array). ...

[ubuntu] Re: File Server mdadm raid5 has crashed

I keep my OS and / mounted on a separate drive besides the array. So the filesystem /tmp was on, does not need to be assembled, just scoured for deleted data. After the initial crash/reboot I tried...

Re: Are you a thread killer?

    Some threads aren't problem/solution
Some threads are just for fun.
But there's always the one guy who takes it awkward.
So less awkward people move on.

[ubuntu] Re: File Server mdadm raid5 has crashed

/dev/sdc is the new drive I bought to replace the drive with the molex damage, and was being --grow'n onto for the raid6 reshape.

[ubuntu] Re: File Server mdadm raid5 has crashed

I stupidly, manually specified /tmp/raid-backup.bak as the path for the backup file. Shooting myself in the foot. I did not realize that in ubuntu, that location is actually cleared on reboot. ...

[ubuntu] Re: File Server mdadm raid5 has crashed

I wonder if it puts the path of the backup file in metadata and then uses that to continue the reshape, but ubuntu cleared the tmp folder on reboot so it couldn't continue. I'm only speculating.

[ubuntu] Re: File Server mdadm raid5 has crashed

So after all that, I think I've managed to lose my files anyway. As soon as I had it back up to RAID5 I went and spent 800 bucks on 12TB of backup plus another 2TB to replace the physically damaged...

[ubuntu] File Server mdadm raid5 has crashed

6 months ago I built a file server with a RAID array and put all my files on it. Today it stopped working. I got home from work, set my HTPC (in one room) to start playing a media file, which it...
