Cortman, do you think I should delete my response? It was the only thing that worked for me. I suggested this because it's a hardware switch problem.
Hi! I was fighting with this problem all day last Sunday on my Lenovo z570. I tried literally every solution, but nothing permanently fixed it until I tried the following:
1. Unplug from your...
Great! Thanks a lot!
Okay, thanks, but just to make sure I have this correct, will I need to do the second sudo chmod o+x on each top level directory I want to move? For example, sudo chmod o+x Pictures, sudo chmod o+x...
Well, I do need to give permission to everyone since I'm using openssh to download to another user's laptop. I'll be downloading from her account on the laptop. She isn't a user on the desktop PC yet.
Thanks, but will I be able to use openssh to copy from the olderusername account to that other user's account on her laptop?
Or should it be "sudo chown laptopuser:laptopuser -R...
I do, but I'm trying to transfer the contents via openssh to another user's laptop. She does not have root permissions on the source machine.
Thanks, and both of those would work IF I weren't trying to do this over openssh.
How about "sudo chmod -R 777 /home/oldusername"? Would that work?
Hi, everyone. Long time, no post! Anyway, I have a problem that I was hoping one of you could untangle.
I just installed Karmic, but I can't copy an old user's home folder (/home/oldusername/)...

Sorry, Xiong, but something went wrong. After I reloaded, it kicked me back to the graphical reconfigure. I had to revert to my saved xorg.conf.
Not that I'm not still grateful, mind you -- I...
You rock! After banging my head on the desk for four hours, this worked like a charm.
EDIT: GAH! I was wrong. On reload, it sent me back to 800X600 and the new xorg reconfigure gui. I tried to...
I'd like to second this-- any news? Sounds like what I have been looking for.
Have you tried going into your boot options? You can change the disk that boots first from "h0,0" to "h1,0" (or whatever the correct hard drive turns out to be). I had this same problem when I...
Hi! I absolutely love Tuxguitar. I hate to resurrect such an old thread, but I'm having a couple of issues: First, when I choose some of the instruments, I don't get any sound. Second, I cannot seem...
And the sun never did set on the British Empire, did it?
Here's an idea: Could we create a "wrapper" for printer drivers, the way we do with wifi?
I had a bad feeling right before I clicked the "Upgrade" button in 7.10. I had read that Presario laptops were "fussy." But I ignored my instinct.
I clicked the button, let it do its thing, and...

We got lucky by buying a place that seems to be elevated slightly. No flooding at all. I have a friend a few blocks away whose recording studio was totally ruined, though.

That would be me. I've been swimming in raw sewage again. I love it.

Edited to add: I'm in the West Rogers Park neighborhood.
By the way, anyone in Chicago notice that there...
