Needed to delete the same 2 files in Kubuntu & all ok again now :)

For what it's worth, I've just performed a fresh install (need to do it every couple of years) & I get the same result with Kubuntu.

Have had a broken KDE session for about 3 days, am I in isolation or is this wide spread? I (with brain out of gear) applied a update the other day that removed kubuntu-desktop when I try to install...
My keyboard only goes to F12 ;) Now I'm jealous that you have something I don't:guitar:
Looking a little more globally this would be great to be the default in Kubuntu as well (all *buntu flavours) I think concentrating our efforts on best of breed applications will cut down on double...
Not sure if the same problem for me, I lost my desktop & effects in Kubuntu. I can alt+f2 to get my apps to run. I have installed xfce window manager to get by.

Am on xfce due to KDE4 being pooched at the moment, Ah the fun of testing:-)

I would love to have Xen kernels in Ubuntu so I don't have to be on Debian for my servers & Ubuntu/Kubuntu on the desktops.

Cary

It looks absolutely awful in KDE, I changed mine back & now is fine. KDE apps are okish but Firefox & Thunderbird were downright ugly:-(
Cary

I didn't install hwinfo as I'm running Kubuntu & thought it was a Gnome app that would install Gb's of data! WRONG have installed it now...
root@stinkpad:~# hwinfo --framebuffer
02: None 00.0:...
I tried this on my stinkpad (1366x768) & I got a trip down memory lane, CGA graphics (think 100 font size) I also tried 1024x768 with no real difference.
Bugger Cary
Is it inappropriate to say Lol?
Lol
After todays updates (update to xorg-server) I installed the prop driver (via jockey) now my Nvidia works flawlessly without a xorg.conf
Cary
This has been documented pretty widely on this forum, my experience is that if I use the prop driver with ignore abi etc my laptop boots to 640x800 graphics. I tried to specify the mode in the...
I tried the ignoreABI & removed the nvidia-current package without luck with ny Nvidia chipset so I removed the xorg.conf & rebooted & now have basic graphics working again:p
