  1. [ubuntu] Re: New to Ubuntu, iSight camera doesn't work on MacBook Pro

My MacBook seems to have lost /dev/video0 as well. How do you activate it?
  2. [ubuntu] Re: 2 years and isight still doesnt work on lucid?

    See: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MactelSupportTeam/AppleiSight

FWIW, it didn't work for me after Ubuntu 10, and I've tried a few other fixes unsuccessfully since...to no avail.

[ubuntu] Re: Why install Ubuntu on my macbook?

I've been running various Linux distros on my now aging MacBook for the better part of the last two years. It got to the point where I just wasn't using the Mac OS X partition anymore, so the MacBook...

Many thanks. The drivers did the trick and work on both my desktop and laptop. BTW, the color looks okay :D

The pointing device did the trick for my aging black MacBook.
  6. Re: What will I be missing if I make the switch from a Mac to Ubuntu?

As I've already mentioned, if you've got a Mac, run the Mac OS and whatever flavor of Linux you prefer to best fit yours needs.

As for iChat, you've got to have a .mac/Mobile Me account to do...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: System freeze after installing 10.10 on iMac

Thanks, Arabis, but I've decided to revert to a wired keyboard and mouse in this case.
  8. Re: What will I be missing if I make the switch from a Mac to Ubuntu?

As others here have recommended, I'd hang on to your Mac and set it up to dual-boot both Mac OS X and Ubuntu. This is especially advisable if you need to run MS Office, Adobe, or other apps for your...
  9. [ubuntu] Re: System freeze after installing 10.10 on iMac

Arabis, I've tried the recommended fix on the link. It didn't work for me. What puzzles me is that the keyboard and mouse worked in a limited way when I ran 10.04 in normal mode. I don't understand...
  10. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu 10.10: iMac 27" i7: Mouse and Keyboard issue.

I've also tried to install btusb-dkms. When I then tried to launch Bluetooth Manager, I received an error message. In short, this fix didn't work for me.
  11. [ubuntu] Re: System freeze after installing 10.10 on iMac

I've heard that 10.10 will work if you use a usb mouse and keyboard, but I was hoping that someone had found a fix for the wireless versions.
  12. [ubuntu] System freeze after installing 10.10 on iMac

I successfully installed Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid on my relatively new iMac 21.5 10,1, but have been unsuccessful in running the upgrade to 10.10 Maverick Meerkat in the normal mode. It appears that the...
  13. [ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu 10.10: iMac 27" i7: Mouse and Keyboard issue.

I have an iMac 21.5" and also have been unable boot Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat in the normal mode after upgrading online because it doesn't seem to recognize either the Magic Mouse or the wireless...

    Re: Grub 2 Basics

Hi Cavsfan, as you can see from my reply to both Zika and drs305, I've already tried a clean install, which didn't work either. I think it's a iMac issue because I had no problem upgrading to Meerkat...

Zika, thanks again for your suggestions. I typed in the command lines you provided, ran sudo update-grub and rebooted, but the log-in screen in the normal mode still freezes. At least I can still run...

    Greetings drs305 and zika,

Thank you for your helpful suggestions.

First, I'm not savvy enough about Linux to know if the Nvidia driver might be causing a problem, but it wasn't a problem with...

  19. Poll: Re: Share with the community your Maverick Meerkat install/upgrade experience

As I've already posted, upgrading from 10.04 to 10.10 on my MacBook was easy and that I only had to tweak a few things to have things work the way I wanted.

However, upgrading to 10.10 on my iMac...

Re: Things that you hate in Ubuntu

Yes, I hate this, too. I haven't quite figured out if one or more of the "critical" or "recommend" updates is/are the culprit(s), but perhaps someone could test each update before adding it to Update...
  21. Poll: Re: Share with the community your Maverick Meerkat install/upgrade experience

Upgrading from 10.04 Lucid Lynx to 10.10 Maverick Meerkat went fairly smoothly on my MacBook, and I've managed to iron out a few minor kinks like iSight, which has plagued other Mac users. Perhaps...
