A system update fixed this problem.
So I bought this ACER ONE D225 net book for £80 off gum tree, plugged it into a 19" monitor with 1280 x 1024 resolution. In windows that works fine but with Linux Mint 13 (and Ubuntu 12.4 LTS) It...
Before Rsavage tells me off for dishing out bad advice (which I occasionally do!) have you read the PowerPC FAQ? https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PowerPCFAQ
OK Rsavage, I was just trying to be helpful because I saw nobody else had replied. I am assuming this person has read the POWER-PC FAQ already, perhaps not.
I have found testing with an old...
Lots of people have problems with graphics on power pc. Normally I'd suggest that you install without a graphical desktop using the alternate install, then try and get x working (there are heaps on...
I have managed this in the past by booting form an OS X install disk (10.5), and using disk utility from that to resize the os x partition and recliam the space.
Remember to back-up files if you...
Makes sense to me!
Have you tried using the alternate install install CD instead?
I don't understand hsiyao- it's marked as not an idea!? So is nv actually supported in 12.04 or not?
I do both! After install, drop to the command line and downloading a ready made xorg.conf file from the command prompt, e.g:
wget http://mac.linux.be/files/xorg/imac8.txt
...to get an...
Generally I would say - download an xorg.conf file in the way described in the FAQ or set one up. I always find the legacy nv driver to be more reliable than neaveau on my iLamp, you can specify nv...
You can make a live usb with the instructions here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PowerPCFAQ
Afraid I don't know how to make a 'persistence loop' on a powerpc (to save changes). If you want a proper...
I hate to be a naysayer but gnash really is not up to task for on-line flash games, and there is no adobe flash for powerpc linux. When my kids want to play Friv I have to reboot into Mac Os X. IF...
Thanks, I didn't try Option "NoInt10" "True" - but I tried Option "UseFBDev" with "False" and "True" and tried Disable "dri". One of the error messages was about No Frame Buffer device being found....
Hi rsavage,
No, none of the xorg.conf files that have worked on this machine in the past are working for me with lubuntu 12.04. Never mind; I have two successfull installs, don't really need 3.
...
“Doh! That is so obvious, thanks rsavage!
Hi, can anyone tell me how to install from the desktop cd without the desktop environment?
More info:
I“ve had 2 successfull installs of lubunut 12.04 now, one iMac G4, one eMac. I want to get...
I don't know why I didn't get the archive error - I looked at the bugs filed on this subject and other people said they were getting the error even if they weren't connected to the internet. The...
Also, I managed to install from the live usb to the hard drive without the mirror archive/server problem you talk about.
Thanks!
Hi rsavage, was it you that added the bit about booting from USB? I found this very usefull as I wanted to try the 12.04 desktop cd but my cd drive is gubbed!
Booting by holding down the option...
Good work rsavage!
Yes, Xubuntu 11.04 totally hogged the CPU on both these boxes that's why I upgrded too. Now I have gone back to Xubuntu 10.10 on one and MintPPC on the other, as they were orginally. Super-annoying...
Same here, on two different powerpc boxes - I went back to other distros on both but I'm keen to know when someone finds a fix! A few other people have commented on this in other threads.
Well that definitely restarted the display while I was using recovery mode, but still when log in the screen goes blank - I think this must be something user specific?!
Ooooh, that might work! I'll get back to you shortly (no laptop or printer so gonna have to write this down and go to broken box!).
