Hi:
I'm running a lab in a school with ubuntu server 12.04 and fat-clients with xubuntu-desktop. Instead of building a fat-client directly I let ltsp-build-client build a thin client and then...
Well... I gave up in the end. I couldn't track down the changes that ltsp-build-image does when it creates the chroot. I'll have to head over to the ltsp project page for more details. However, I'm...

Well I have tested again with the usb-serial adapter, this time with ubuntu in a vm in macosx, using minicom and it seems to work well. Every now and again it seems to stall, but if I unplug and...
Hi...
I'm trying to get a serial-console terminal going on a server that I run.
I have a usb-serial adapter with the pl2303 chipset and a null modem cable.
At the moment I have tested it...
I plugged a dlink dbt-122 rev.b into a Canon MX330 printer to use bluetooth printing. Great idea, but it appears that the printer "updated" (or at least modified) it's firmware. I only realized some...
Hi...
I've implemented a custom setup in a school with xfce4 and ubuntu minimal. All panels are preset and locked, but the new users that login for the first time get asked if they wish to use the...
Finaly!!!
I have the setup that I was going for:
- Locked panels, custom menu and locked desktop. ie, "full control"
I must say that the documentation for xfce4 was not exactly clear, at...
Cool... this is of great help.
I think I will end up doing a mix of things.
- Set up a predefined panels and settings as defaults, so that newly created users get the config.
- Modify the...
I agree, but what if you have several users? Maybe a hundred?
Since ubuntu and debian seem to have programed general startup scripts for xsessions for all users, I would have to create a new one...
Mmm... I've been looking at xfce's docs and searched around and it seems that there is no straight forward way of doing it.
I did find out that if you are login in through a login manager and...
I see what you mean. I had been thinking about something like that.
Do you have any info on were login-logout scripts might get run?
Thanks a lot.
Well, overall, nothing really. It's more a question of keeping things tidy and funtional. Past experience has shown that if some users can change something, they will, even if they are not sure of...
Great tip!
I see what you mean by building up a tailored system, instead of adapting a current one.
I'm still a bit miffed at the fact that xfce's kiosk mode is documented and people have got...
Hi:

OK.
Tried to install live-boot-initramfs-tools... it seems to be the new name/replacement for initramfs-tools, but I still get en error from the /usr/share/initramfs/hooks/live.
I looked in the...
Ahh... I see that 11.10 doesn't have a live-initramfs package...
What would be the equivalent, if any, then?
I have tested on a minimal install of 11.10 running xfce4.
When I try to install live-initramfs, I get the following:
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-3.0.0-12-generic
cp: cannot...
Same here.
Had a server/client setup running 9.04/9.10 beautifully. Then decided to upgrade to 10.10... it's a mess... not even close to working and have not been able to pin it down. I have the...
Hi...
(sorry, slightly off topic)...
I use to run a diskless system (server-clients) with 9.04 and then 9.10, with no problems. I decided to upgrade to 10.10 on the server and clients (and over...
Well, i've got A solution working... not all the way though:
I used rungetty to autologin to the account that runs SheepShaver and then added an xinitrc file to that users home folder that starts...
Hi...
My goal: Set up a regular PC with a minimal ubuntu sytem that will run SheepShaver in fullscreen mode, with no other windowed processes.
In other words, a kind of transparent...

Err... Can someone at least tell me if this all sounds like a good/worth-while idea?
Found a launchpad entry with a reference to live-initramfs. Reference to .sbin/udevinfo is incorect. It seems that it should point to udevadm.
I changed it manually and tried to rebuild initramfs....
