Thanks Greg, but you mention a G4 and Powerpc, this MacMini is Intel and less than 2 years old. Does you advice still apply.

I run 12.04 in Virtualbox on a MacMini with an AMD Radeon HD 6630M graphics card.
When trying to upgrade to 12.10, I get a warning that 12.10 is incompatible with the installed card and that I...
I will give it another try, it certainly wasn't working before, which is why I ended up with the weekly build.
Thanks,
Graham
It didn't work for me either in precise (but was working with 1.7 in 11.10)
I ended up with the daily build ppa, its further down the install page that has the unstable ppa.
I haven't done...
That changes things a bit, as I assumed that I had broken something, but this sounds more fundamental. However, Kaplis said that the software centre provides 1.9 so it doesm
N't seem broken for...
Thanks, but the problem is that I can't get any version through the Ubuntu repository.
For now, I have 1.9 through ppa, but still don't understand why I get the message through theSoftware centre...
To reply to myself, re-enabling the nightly build ppa gives me access to QGIS 1.9 again, I wonder if there is in fact no precise version of 1.7 actually in the ppa for that build?
Graham
I had a ppa set up for QGIS in 11.10, but after upgrading to 12.04 (yesterday), trying to run QGIS gave an Ubuntu internal error message.
I edited the ppa repository address so it referred to...
David,
VMware has been working fine, and with no problems with shared folders until now, it seems linked to a recent VMware update
I set up the shared folders in Virtual Box, with the menu,...
David,
I have now installed Virtual Box and Ubuntu 11.10 (on the Mac Mini) and the bluetooth keyboard is now acting as you are describing :-)
But it still isn't on VMWare :-(
The weird thing...
David,
Thanks again, it was a fresh install on the mini and an update on the Macbook pro. But I have now lost file sharing on the Macbook Pro, and can't get it back !!. It wasn't working on...
David,
Thanks, but I only have the "English(UK,Macintosh" keyboard layout available as an option under keyboard layout. I tried the other options, but even fewer keys worked than with this...
Can anyone tell me how to get the the # symbol on a Macbook pro (UK keyboard) running Ubuntu 11.10 in VMWare.
I have tried the different keyboard options and the one that lets most keys work is...
Upgrading to vmware fusion 4 fixed this. However, the vmware tools menu install din't mount the iso nothing happened when you clicked on the menu. Managed to fudge an install manually, and folder...
Frank,
I did wonder if an upgrade might be the answer.
Thanks,
Graham
I have just unpgraded to 11.10 running in VMWare fusion (on Snow Leopard) and re-installed VMWare tools. However several things are't working, in particular folder sharing.
When I configure...
Thanks,
That is still really useful, even with Calibri available to buy, and a better option.
Cheers,
Graham
Sorry cariboo, I've now reread your original message and I now get the point you were making.
Graham
I see, I obviously hadn't picked up on this. Its now back on the 32Gb SSD, and noticeably slower.
Thanks,
Graham
Was this for me, cos I only have 4gb available for the install and its a clean install (done with your help in fact) so while there may be some programs left lying around after the install, I doubt...
Yes, I did install the upgrade, but I am pretty sure the original wasn't as big as 16Gb at the time or I doubt I would have upgraded. It was bought as a Windows machine, and they had different spec....
To be honest I can't remember, but its a few years old now, and I remember when I bought it there was discussion about how slow it was in terms of installing an OS on it, but the faster model was...
I fear you may be right, but I'm not sure if its worth spending the money on my 901, I may well just put everything back onto the 32gb SSD and accept that things run a bit slowly.
Graham
That's what the web site says (2.35gb, I think is what it said), and certainly on the Mac its a 1gb download, which I assume is compressed.
Graham
Having just re-intstalled this morning, I don't mind re-installing again, its just I don't know where best to put things.
I am beginning to wonder if the answer is just to accept the slower 32gb,...
