Is there a known cause for this. I think it breaks every so often. I was just doing a re-install before. Every 2 weeks.

Always used nVidia cards on Linux here, too. However, ATI's new 13 Catalyst are improved as well.
It is sometimes better to remove it using Synaptic but if you just want to disable it:
go to the top right power icon and go to system settings
then startup programs and uncheck Bluetooth
You are using Unity now. Along with Metacity i believe. Unity works as a plugin for Compiz. You cannot have wobbly windows when you are using Unity's top panel.
I have gotten 90% used to it. I still cannot get used to the top panel to switch program's focus to close it from there.

that is not gonna help at all but to remove the PPA of Gnome 3. you will still have to remove Gnome 3 as well. I cannot find the old repositories in which gnome 2.32 have been kept on.
I could say that KDE is slightly lighter on resources than gnome2 , yet, I had gnome2 work on a 800MHz cpu and a 16-bit ati agp card

Well, Ubuntu 11.04 loads Unity by default. it should switch to 2d if your card does not handle it. I have no idea how to get Gnome 2.32 to load without the login screen.
