I installed Natty (32bit) not too long ago, and decided I wanted Skype to run on startup. So, I went into the Startup Programs menu, and added Skype. However, when I boot up, there is a small, white...
Hi Aeonis.
A really great place to do research is in the community wiki:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community
There are lots of really informative articles, if you know what you're looking for....
Well if that's the case, then I'll use the Retrode. Fascinating device, allows nearly any old game to be plugged in and viewed by your computer as a removable drive with a rom on it. I also know how...
Hey guys, I'm writing for a Legend of Zelda fansite, LegendZelda.net. I am exploring the idea of doing live streams of us playing some of the games. I have a Toshiba Satellite A205-S5804.The best way...
I downloaded freeSSHd (http://www.freesshd.com/) on my Windows XP SP3 PC and configured the firewall to allow port 22. My grander scheme is to use this Windows PC as a SOCKS proxy server, that I can...
Bump please
Did more searching, and any possible port that I uncovered I have already found and tried, and I tried them again just to be certain. Nada. Has anyone else experienced this?
Alright, great! I live about five miles from there, so I'll plan on it! However, I seem to recall you guys met at a coffee house downtown at one point. Did you change it, or did you divide it up into...
Thank you! Getting rid of portmap closed port 111!
Also, I have some more insight on the Samba issue. When I turn ufw on with all appropriate Samba ports allowed in, and I try to connect to a...
Hmm, well, good news and bad news. That closed the NFS port. However, Samba appears to be gone (at least, from a port scan. I can't look from another PC because my wireless router is currently down....
You might say, I live in Broken Arrow.
Alright, I've found that the NFS port is opened by (surprise) nfsd. Does anyone know how I can turn it off? I have no NFS shares to my knowledge.
The RPC port I'm guessing belongs to either...
Yes, I did! Sorry for the late response. Been a little buried lately.
I'm not familiar with Aptitude output, does this mean anything to you?
Hi,
I applied to join the Oklahoma LoCo team on Launchpad, and I'm not certain how often things like that are checked, so I just wanted to post here and let any would-be Launchpad moderator know...
No, this is a dedicated partition installation.
And I haven't made any NFS shares, nor am I running any RPC software (that I know of). Is there anyway to find out?
Alright, so I'm locking down my laptop. I know I can use a firewall to ensure nothing gets through that I didn't catch, and I certainly plan on using one, but in the meantime, I want to know what...
Alright, that fixed it. I've been using OpenDNS servers lately. All is well! But, does this mean I can't use OpenDNS? I use OpenDNS on my Windows PCs, and they work just fine.
*sigh* So sick of this. Samba has consistently plagued me from the moment I began using Ubuntu two or so years ago.
So, I set up a share, my Public folder in my home folder. All my Windows...
Thanks a lot guys, built the image, erased the drive (which I don't know why I had to do, I had formatted it already anyway, trying with ext3, ext4, and just unused space) and now it's working!
Tried to make my USB drive a live usb drive, but everything is grayed out/disabled. See the appended screenshot for a better idea. What in the world is the problem?
Thanks Morbius, figured it out!
In smb.conf, in order for guest access to work correctly, you have to have "security = share" instead of "security = user", which is the default in the...
Well, good news--I can access Documents and Pictures now!!! Bad news: Windows STILL comes up with a username/password prompt.
I noticed my print$ share also asks for username and password, could...
