    I get the same thing when I run Dpkg, it gives no output... no package outputs, nothing. Then I get to the same point as before in apt-get, only it gives me no traceback, it just stops.

    alsamixer, then press "F4" and changing the level of your microphone. I am sure there's a graphical program to do this, but I haven't looked for one.
