Hi,
Started having this problem a few days ago. Any time I try to run synaptic or update manager I get this error:
E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList...
Fixed it. Thanks. 8-)
Having the same problem here, don't know of any workaround
yet.
Looks like the problem has returned. The fixes above
corrected the problem for awhile, but now in the last few days
problem has returned. Anyone else experiencing this?
Works great, thanks. Still can't get the radar map to work with Ubuntu 11.10. :(
Not sure if this is necessary, but it appears Thunderbird can
be upgraded using a similar technique:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/thunderbird-stable
sudo apt-get update

I have Opera 11.01 installed on Ubuntu 10.10. The "check all"

After you install the 1.0.1-1build1 version open Synaptic Package Manager again, click on udisks to highlight it, then package > lock version. This will prevent Update Manager from trying to install...
I was having the same problem. Startup manager had added vga= to
some of the Automagic Kernels List lines in menu.lst, removing vga=
from all the lines cured the problem. Always be careful (make a...
Your welcome!!! I have been using the Skyrocket screen saver
for years. People ask "why haven't I seen this on my computer?"
I tell them, "you need to get a GOOD operating system like Ubuntu,...
Open Synaptic Package Manager and search for skyrocket, that should get what you want. Good luck. :D
Having the same problem here, along with disappearing
windows title bars and a scroll problem with the Preferences
menu under System. It looks like Launchpad knows
about the pointer bug.
Done. I voted "me too" on launchpad and changed this thread to unsolved,
maybe it will get someones attention.
Go to system>preferences>
If the list is long enough that you have to use the scroll function to
get the desired app, the list will jump back as soon as the pointer
is moved from the bottom,...
Thanks for replying stinkeye. My settings are as shown in your thumbnail, but still no joy. Given this minor cube problem and some major problems with usb scanners that worked fine with 9.04...
My previous install of Jaunty would rotate the cube by simply scrolling the mouse wheel, no buttons needed to be pushed.
Everything worked fine with Jaunty 9.04, but I haven't had any luck getting the "cube" to rotate using the mouse wheel since I upgraded to Karmic 9.10. The other ways to rotate the cube still work...
Ubuntu may appear to automatically install the printer when you first plug it in, probably as a model HL-2170W. If it does the printer will probably just power up but not actually print anything.

Here is another good source of help with
DSL Extreme. Link
I use DSL Extreme too.
Does xsane find the scanner if you run it as root?
Open terminal and type "gksudo xsane" without the quotation
marks of course. If it recognizes it then you probably have
a problem with...
Does running this command, sudo usermod -a -G lp username, compromise
the security of Ubuntu? I'm fairly new to Linux, so I really don't
know.
See this thread
Thanks in advance!
After a lot of searching, I found this thread that cured the problem.
Opening terminal and entering:
sudo usermod -a -G lp username
solved the problem in Jaunty.
Thanks leospart!
