I saw this mentioned recently. Apparently its due to some drastic efforts to control spam on the boards until they can get the "go ahead" on upgrading vBulletin.

I agree though. Minor or not, its certainly a point on polishing and fine-tuning which is what 12.04 is supposed to be all about! :D
