My biggest problem now is the silly trackpad. I'm used to Lenovo's trackpoint...
This should give you a good hint on what is happening:
dmesg | grep -Ei 'nvidia|nvrm'
When you installed nvidia-updates, did you see it successfully build DKMS modules? If not, purge...
If you choose the older kernel in GRUB it will likely work fine, so you get a decent screen to fix it. I did not realize that until after fixing the problem using the almost unreadable little font in...
I too just ran into this. I had booted the Ubuntu partition numerous times with no problems. Last night I installed some Ubuntu updates before powering off and since then, I get no X. Running...
v3.6-rc6-quantal includes Bernhard's patches!
But for running the nvidia driver and no nouveau, I should be fine with just the other two patches, right? I seem to be closer than ever now...
$ dmesg|grep -Ei nvidia\|NVRM
[ 4.404369]...
The second does not apply cleanly but I resolved it. The "case DCB_OUTPUT_DP:" now reads "case OUTPUT_DP:", that's all.

I still haven't tried downgrading gfxCardStatus, maybe...
I believe that means you get VESA frambuffer. You should be able to get nouveau working with full resolution, I get it as soon as I stop blacklisting it. My problem is need OpenCL, and nouveau is not...
What version are you using? We can pick old ones at http://codykrieger.com/gfxCardStatus/changelog
Linux is not as good at adopting to DPI as I thought it would. I did the following so far, running Mint 13:
First, I added this to xorg.conf (size was calculated for now, not measured):

That DKMS build problem I had (with 304.37) seem to be solved with nvidia 304.43.
Edit: so why do I get the VESA FB instead of nvidia in X? Do I need to upgrade the whole xorg stuff? Or do I need...
Exactly what kernel did you base this on? Latest git or some earlier commit? I tried applying all mentioned patches (a couple seemed already applied in main tree now) upon latest git. Then I...
