Exciting. I can't wait.
I have Windows 7 and openSUSE 11.2 on this machine and aside from some neat features of the windows superbar, I think KDE 4.3 is a much better desktop environment. Windows feels super cluttered to me.
Good idea. I'm keeping you to your word, so don't forget ;) November 17th, 2039. See you on the neuronet.
I can see that as a possibility, especially if Microsoft begins to lose a lot of marketshare to open source alternatives. Singularity is already released under a shared source license, so I don't...
Midori operating system
I believe Microsoft will still be around in 30 years, and their technology will still be competitive. I highly doubt they will sustain their current marketshare, but I do...
Just took a look around brainstorm and found this: http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/81/
They claim to be working on the issue, but its been a while since that has been proposed. Hopefully we'll...
In my experience, the distro I use makes little to no difference with regards to battery life. Power management is terrible under linux. I have an Asus UL80vt which get about 10 hours of battery life...
Chess :P
It would be epic if Google creates a decent replacement for X.
While I'm excited to see Google join the party by releasing and OS, I don't see Chrome OS as ever being a complete replacement for a full-fledged desktop operating system like Ubuntu, Windows, or OS...
Sound works great out of the box on my Asus UL80vt in 9.10.
There's a really neat Bejeweled clone in the repos called Gweled. Y'all might want to check that out.
I always buy an enclosure + hard drive if I need an external. Much cheaper that way and no strange formatting issues.
I downloaded the 64-bit KDE livecd of openSUSE and was so impressed that I installed it onto my hard drive. My initial impressions are that this is a fantastic OS marred by a confusing package...
I really hope this goes the way of those instant-on, embedded operating systems (like Splashtop). If Google can coax PC manufacturers to install Chrome OS on their machines in this way, almost every...
I had never heard of colemak before I came across this thread. I read up about it and now believe it to be the QWERTY alternative Dvorak should have been (for myself at least). So I've now switched...
I can't change the brightness on my laptop in 9.10 either. I think this is a bug that a lot of people might be experiencing, judging from similar posts.
I'm having the exact same problem with a new laptop as well. It is a different make/model than yours so I am wondering if this is a widespread problem in 9.10. I've searched the forums and other have...
Thank you! I've been trying to figure out how to get a dsdt file for days!
You can't disable it in the BIOS :(
As far as I know, switchable graphics are unsupported (for all laptops) in GNU/Linux due to issues in X and graphics drivers. If you read the bug report linked in milou's post, you'll see what I'm...
You are probably best off scouring craigslist. I don't think you'll find anything in that price range new nowadays.
Hello again. Thank you milou for all your help with this issue. I will try all of those things you mentioned when I have some time, including sending ASUS a nice email about including support for...
Someone suggested that I blacklist my device, but I can't figure out my module name from lsmod and lspci. Can someone take a look and identify my device? The card is an nvidia G210M.
