Re: Samsung AHCI SM951 SSD Boot

I have the same two drives - a Plextor M6e that boots perfectly and an SM951 that will not boot. I'm using an ASRock Z97 Extreme6 motherboard with two M.2 slots - a PCIe 2.0 x2 that has the Plextor...
  2. [ubuntu] Re: Kingston FCR-HS3 USB 3.0 flash card reader - working in Ubuntu?

I did end up getting one and yes, it does work properly under Linux with the right USB 3.0 controller on the motherboard.

It does NOT WORK with an ASMedia 1040:

  3. Re: HOWTO: use a Brother PT-1230PC labeller with Ubuntu

Neat idea. Have you e-mailed the original developer about this?

BTW I had a little program hiccup when I upgraded to 13.04...I tried this program out and nothing happened when I pressed the print...

Google searches aren't locating anything relevant, so I'm wondering if anyone is using this USB 3.0 card reader in Ubuntu? Does it work OK?

[ubuntu] Re: Speed test of SD card

Sure hope that isn't the case here because I bought two of the fastest Class 10 cards I could afford - one was a new "UHS-1" type. However I made sure these exact ones were listed and had fast test...

[ubuntu] Re: Speed test of SD card

Yeah - I was afraid of that. It's a long wait for a Raspberry Pi lately (total of 6 weeks, I'm down to 4 now) so I was buying accessories and playing around with emulators.

    Given the stress I'm...

[ubuntu] Re: Did I fill up /dev/null?

    That makes sense, thank you.

I'm googling around, and it seems that there are workarounds to disable caching for this process:

[ubuntu] Re: Did I fill up /dev/null?

That's what it looks like, but I can't figure out what cache. The SD card itself has no cache of course, nor does the card reader. With a speed of 3.1 GB/s, looks like it's reading from main memory...

[ubuntu] Speed test of SD card

Yeah, I know, this isn't possible, but it's like I'm reading from a cache or something?

Doing speed testing on an SD card using Ubuntu 12.10 64-bit and the following commands:

  10. Poll: Re: HOWTO: Ubuntu All Brother Printer & Scanner Driver Installation for Newbies!

There's really only one critical step:

    dpkg -i --force-all (cupswrapper-drivername)

That's it. It says to open and install (dpkg - "depackage") the driver.

    You have to navigate to...
  11. Poll: Re: HOWTO: Ubuntu All Brother Printer & Scanner Driver Installation for Newbies!

If there's a driver on the Brother website for it then it's compatible and should work. And yes, yours is listed:

Oh I also didn't read properly then, you now indicate it's working - sorry!

Anyway, yeah, to get to printer properties in CUPS, just click the link, don't right-click.

    The CUPS web interface is...

This could be the source of your trouble - note the Brother instructions state that some modification work must be done in the CUPS web interface:

Hmm, do you have a custom kernel?

Entering "interface 0 claimed by usblp" into Google shows some hints. This one may help:

    OMG it works!! :D

My MFC-7460DN is now working both over the network and over USB (in fact, xsane lets me choose between the two). Still no sign of the MFC-J615W (looks like they need to update...

Yes, I tried that. No effect.:(
  17. Poll: Re: HOWTO: Ubuntu All Brother Printer & Scanner Driver Installation for Newbies!

I'm having a similar problem (xsane can't find any devices) and I suspect 12.10 introduced some incompatibility with the Brother scanner driver.

I have two Brother scanners - both were working...
