    I have heard that this can cause trouble. Try disconnecting sda drive.

    If I were you - I would move grub to sdb device.

    So reboot using your liveCD.
    Mount the linux device :

    $ sudo mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt

    Mount all other devices :

    $ sudo mount --bind /dev...

    Firstly that is really weird.
    Do you have iptables running, try:

    service iptables status

    If yes, post here :

    lsmod | grep ip_tables
    iptables -L
