I don't think you can sudo remote. We always have to log in remote, SU, then edit our cron jobs. We are coming from a windows world so maybe from anther GNU/L it is different, but I don't thinks so....

Also note that the directory you created is not the same spelling as the mount command is using.
Did you try the -L label option for the mount command? Is that what you are looking for?
I'm running 12.04 LTS and my 4GB thumb pops right up with the proper name, and also shows in devices named.
